LEARNING COMPETENCY

Identify and use action words in past tense with the help of time signals.

I – OBJECTIVES

At the end of 50-minute discussion, the grade 2 pupils will be able to do the
following with at least 85% level of accuracy:

a. Identify the past tense form of a verb in a sentence.


b. Determine the different time signals of a past tense form of a verb in a sentence;
c. Appreciate the importance of cooperation during group activities.

D. Presentation

The lesson that we will discuss today is all


about “The Past Tense Form of a Verb”.
Again, what is our topic today? Our topic for today is all about “The Past
Tense Form of a Verb”.
Class, I have here some sentences, let us
all read this.

1. I climbed the tree a while ago.

2. My mother cooked Adobo yesterday. (Reading)

3. I fell from my bed last night.

E. Discussion
In the first sentence, which do you think is
the action word? The word climbed, teacher.

How about in the second sentence? The word cooked, teacher.

Correct! And how about in the third The word fell, teacher.

Excellent class. And what are the


underlined words in the given sentences? The words a while ago, yesterday, and
last night.

And what do you think are those? They are referring to time teacher.

Very good. Those underlined words are


the time signals or indicators of when was
the action happened. In which those three
refers to action being done already.

But what does past tense form of a verb


really mean?
The past tense form of a verb refers to the
actions that has been done already.

F. Application

Now class, we will be having a group


activity. We will just utilize the group that
we have formed a while ago.

For the group 1, their activity is entitled


“Choose Me!”. What you are going to do is
to choose from the box the time signals for
past tense and write your answer on the
given number. Understand Group 1? Group 1: Yes, teacher!

Very good. For the group 2, their activity is


entitled “Complete Me!” What you are
going to do is to complete the sentence by
underlining the appropriate time signal to
make the verb in the sentence in a past
tense. Understand Group 2? Group 2: Yes, teacher!

Great! While for the group 3, their activity


is entitled “Am I Right or Not?”. What you
are going to do is to identify whether the
verb in the sentence is in the past tense
form or not. Write TRUE if it is in the past
tense form and FALSE if it is not.

activity is entitled “Shape Me Right”. What
you are going to do is to draw a heart
