MANY DECADES AGO, THE PHILIPPINES WAS A RICE EXPORTER, BUT TODAY WE ARE A RICE

IMPORTER. WHY DO YOU BELIEVED THI HAPPENED?

- During Ferdinand Marcos Regime Philippines was a primarily a rice exporter, But why does it
change? For my own opinion I think it change because of the changing administration, we know
that Ferdinand Marcos was a cruel and strict President who don’t allow other countries to know
how to facilitate and produce rice inside our country. But as time passed we had too much
exposure and let other countries use the knowledge and enhanced it for better production. But
according to Margarita Gonzalez, Vernise Tantuco/Rappler.com During Corazon Aquino’s term,
the Asian financial crisis and droughts brought by El Niño raised rice prices, and from 1988 to
1990, there was an increase in rice imports.
