To-do list! Character building Activity

These are the list of to-do list that you need to be done. You need to put some check (√) on each item
but you need to attach a picture or evidence each task to verify that you accomplished it. Do it in a
separate work sheet.

1. _ __Take a smile with you everywhere you go. Smiles are free, feel good, and can lift your mood.
Science has shown that your physiology and body can lead your emotions. Smiling can enhance your
mood and your outlook regarding the future.(jpg)

2.__ _ Create a morning routine that focuses on happiness. You have a morning routine to get
yourself cleaned up and out the door on time. Build a routine that boosts your attitude too. Consider the
things that fill you with feeling of positivity.

Eat a healthy breakfast(jpg)

Listen to inspiring music(jpg)

3._ _ Ask yourself optimistic questions. Questions change your focus. Ask positive questions and
you’ll receive positive answers.

What’s great about this situation? ________________

How can I use this to my advantage? ______________

Whom do I love? __________________

4.__ _Spend time with others that have a positive attitude. It’s challenging to maintain a better
attitude than the people you spend time with. Seek out others with a positive attitude and spend as
much time with them as you can.

5._ __Create a gratitude list. It’s easy to focus on what you don’t have in life. Change your focus and
remind yourself of all the great things you already have. Each morning and evening, rattle off a list of the
people, things, and experiences that make you feel grateful.

6._ __Think happy thoughts. Left to its own devices, your mind will run wild. It’s so random, that
you’re bound to think negative thoughts some of the time. You can control your thoughts. Keep them
positive.

7.__ _ Make exciting plans. It’s easier to be happy with a few exciting things planned for the near
future. Planning a trip to Paris would be nice, but simple things work well, too. A planned trip to the
movies with a friend or family can make the week more enjoyable. Have something you can look
forward to each week.
8._ __Remember happy memories. When you’re feeling down, remember some of the good times
you’ve had. Spend a few minutes remembering your senior prom or the first time you bowled 300. Five
minutes remembering positive experiences can get your attitude back on track. What is your happiest
memory from childhood? What about the last five years?(jpg)

9.__ _Enjoy the simple things. Many of the simple things are the most meaningful. Playing with your
child or enjoying an ice cream cone can be as enjoyable as making a million dollars or scuba diving in
Hawaii. Enjoy the simple things you do each day.(jpg)

10._ __Change your expectations. Part of unhappiness comes from unreasonable expectations. Life
isn’t supposed to be easy. Sure, you’ll have many easy days. But you can decide to find happiness in the
challenging days, too. What you consider to be a “good” day or a “bad” day is influenced by your
expectations.

11._ __ Do something nice, anonymously. It’s thrilling to do something nice for someone without
their knowledge. You feel like a superhero. Mow your neighbour’s grass or send someone flowers. Give
a gift card to the elderly couple down the street. Do something and keep your involvement a secret.

Learning Task:

Heinz Dilemma

A woman was on her deathbed. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her.
It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was
expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to produce. He
paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman's husband,
Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $1,000
which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it
cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said: “No, I discovered the drug and I'm going to make
money from it.” So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man's laboratory to steal the drug for his
wife. What will be your decision?

Use Kohlberg’s Stages of Moral Development

Level 1.

Stage 1(Obidience): Heinz should not steal the medicine as he will be imprisoned as a result, which
will show that he is a bad person and may put her wife in greater risk. Or if Heinz should steal the
medication as it only has a $200 value rather than the $500 the druggist sought for it; Heinz had even
offered to pay for it. Heinz initially approached the druggist with allegiance and subservience. To buy
the medicine, he even took out a loan and pleaded to the druggist. In addition to working hard, he
saved over $1000 to get the medication. The druggist, though, disputes giving this.

Stage 2 (Self Interest): Heinz ought to break the door in order to acquire the medicine. His wife wants
her husband to do something for her as well. Moreover, his wife will pass away. We have a moral
obligation to save those who are dying. According to utilitarian ethics, an action is always morally
correct if the result is positive. Heinz will be considerably happier if he saves his wife, even if it means
having to serve time in jail, hence he is correct if he breaks down the drug store's door to get the
medicine. Or Heinz shouldn't steal the medication because a prison is a terrible place and he would
probably languish there longer than his wife would have lived.

Level 2.

Stage 3 (Comformity): The druggist disputes giving the medication. In Totain the medication, he is thus
compelled to use an allegedly illegal method. His wife anticipates it, and he wants to be a good
husband, so he should act to save her life. He has tried everything he can think of to avoid breaking
the law, including praying to the druggist and borrowing money to purchase the medication.
Therefore, he shouldn't steal the drug because it's wrong to steal, and he is not a criminal. His efforts
to obtain the medication were successful, and he also saved up $1000 to do so. But, since the drug
dealer disputes delivering this, you cannot hold him responsible.
Stage 4 (Law and Order): Heinz shouldn't steal the medication because it is against the law, is illegal,
and has many repercussions. Alternatively Heinz may steal the medication for his wife, but he would
also have to accept the appropriate punishment and make good on his debt to the druggist.

Level 3.

Stage 5 (human rights): Heinz ought to steal the medication since he loves his wife so much and
because everyone has the freedom to choose life, regardless of the law. Alternatively, Heinz shouldn't
take the medication since the scientist is entitled to just remuneration. The fact that his wife is ill does
not excuse his behavior.

Stage 6 (universal human ethics): Heinz ought to steal the medication since protecting another
person's property rights is less important than saving lives. Saving a dying person is one of a person's
primary obligations. The druggist may act in this situation. Yet he prefers to make more money from
his medication. It is totally unethical. Also, it is a crime that can be punished. The druggist needs to
take the underprivileged into account. He shouldn't be so rude and brutal with the vulnerable
patients. He must adhere to certain moral standards. Maybe Heinz shouldn't steal the medicine since
someone else might need it and their lives are just as important.
