Teacher 1: Abegail Villaluna

1. How do you teach social studies?

Making my students responsible citizens is my main objective when teaching

social studies. I keep up with current topics and stimulate lively, civil debates
among the students. I also had to conduct and grade a variety of tests. Because I
believe that children who have studied social studies grow up to be adults who
can contribute civilly to our democratic society.

2. What tools/materials you use in teaching social studies?

I usually use interactive materials, such as photographs and illustrations, for better
quality and to encourage students to be more active, especially when I'm talking
about past experiences. Using this and, of course, my laptop for PowerPoint
presentations is much better so that students can see through it and participate.

3. Does the use of these methods varies among the grade levels?

Using these methods, I believe it also varied for younger grade levels because
children are more active when they see color, paintings, and drawings. It can make
their learning more appropriate and enjoyable.

4. How do you assess students in teaching social studies?

There are two types of assessments I usually do: formative and summative. Formative
assessment helps students improve their understanding and helps teachers focus on and elicit
things that students don't understand. In teaching social studies, it is necessary to teach history.
For this, I used a timeline activity in which students could identify when and where past events
happened.

Teacher 2:

1. How do you teach social studies?

When we teach social studies, our goal is to support students in

becoming citizens of a democratic society with a varied culture and
an interdependent global community who can make educated
decisions for the common good.

2. What tools/materials you use in teaching social studies?

I do digital teaching; I use my laptop to make presentations that I can show to my

students. And I do let them use books so they can have references and other
resourceful materials that they can use to learn, adapt, and cooperate in class.

3. Does the use of these methods varies among the grade levels?

I think lower grade levels might get bored watching presentations for hours
because young students are often active when using interactive methods, so I
believe this method is for adults or higher grade levels.

4. How do you assess students in teaching social studies?

I usually do summative tests and recitations for me to be able to know which part
of the lesson my students don't pay attention to or can't cope with.
