Background of the Study

A lot of people nowadays would often try to entertain themselves in various

ways in order to get away from certain problems. One of the forms of
entertainment is the use of shows. The pandemic has greatly affected the way
people live most especially in dealing with solutions to mental health.

Social platforms are one way of which people would try to heal

and accessible forms of escape of people, most especially of the younger
generation. More and more youths of today would choose Tiktok, Facebook,
Instgram, Twitter, and Youtube among others to express themselves as well as
to entertain themselves so that they will be able to get away from their concerns
in life. Viewers would often seen makers and owners of these accounts to choose
comedy as type of show even amidst negative situations.

The researchers feel that life has a way of handling difficulties through
comedies. Hence, this study aimed to describe life and to show this through a
creative output called, " PAINDIS - -INDIS " a comedy presentation of widely
used social media application.

CHAPTER II
Review of the Related Literature

This chapter is divided into two parts: (1) Conceptual literature and Related
Studies which provided the basis of the study that is being studied. (2) Artists/
Proponents which provided persons who are experts in a similar creative output.

CONCEPTUAL LITERATURE AND RELATED STUDIES

According to Dollarhide (2021), the term social media refers to a computer-based

technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and information
through virtual networks and communities. Social media is internet-based and
gives users quick electronic communication of content, such as personal
information, documents, videos, and photos. Users engage with social media via
a computer, tablet, or smartphone via web-based software or applications. While
social media is ubiquitous in America and Europe, Asian countries like Indonesia
lead the list of social media usage. More than 4.5 billion people use social media,
as of October 2021.

The same writer said that social media originated as a way to interact with
friends and family but was later adopted by businesses that wanted to take
advantage of a popular new communication method to reach out to customers.
The power of social media is the ability to connect and share information with
anyone on Earth, or with many people simultaneously.

According to the source, there are more than 3.8 billion social media users
around the world. Social media is an ever-changing and ever-evolving field, with
new apps such as TikTok and Clubhouse coming out seemingly every year,
joining the ranks of established social networks like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter,
and Instagram. By 2023, the number of social media users in the United States is
forecast to increase to approximately 257 million.

According to the Pew Research Center, social media users tend to be

younger. Nearly 90% of people between the ages of 18 and 29 used at least one
form of social media. Further, these users tend to be better educated and
relatively wealthy, or earning over $75,000 per year

A comedy is a story with a satisfying conclusion that makes the audience

laugh. A successful comedy can make the audience realize significant social or
personal issues in addition to making them laugh and feel good.
"PetrangKabayo," "Praybeyt Benjamin," "Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa kiyeme," "Die
Beautiful," and "Ang tanging ina," are a few examples of Filipino well-known
comedies.
