A teacher is a driving force behind a good teaching and learning session. Thus, a lesson plan is
designed to assist the teacher in delivering the lesson systematically and smoothly. In this
writing, I will examine some components in the lesson plan in terms of their applicability: Topic,
focus skill, content standards, learning standards, learning objectives, HOTS, soft skills, cross-
curriculum elements, value instillation, and teaching aids.

To begin, the topic "Amazing Animals," obtained from the Year 4 textbook, is the specific
information the teacher intends to convey in the lesson and a good disclosure. This familiar
topic may pique children's interest and curiosity about animals, and promote empathy. Second,
listening is the main focus, whereas speaking is a complementary skill. In his article, Mart
(2020) states that the integration of listening and speaking skills is essential for the growth of
oral production. Children can express themselves more clearly. Hence, it demonstrated the
relevant concept for improving pupils' language competency. After generating the idea and skills
to improve, the teacher then will have a sense of what to focus on.

Next, the content standard and learning standard for the listening skill; are to understand
the meaning in a variety of familiar contexts and to understand with support the main idea of
longer simple texts aligned to the Dokumen Standard Kurikulum dan Pentaksiran (DSKP). It
intends to familiarise pupils with audio texts. It then unveils one of the objectives, to listen to and
label at least four of the six pet names on the worksheet. The objective, in my opinion, has
indicated children's development as it determines the assessment criteria with consideration.
The content standard for speaking skills is to communicate simple information intelligibly, whilst
the learning standard is to explain and give reasons for basic beliefs. This planning attempts to
improve their effective communication and incorporate students' participation in class. The
objective is then to describe a favourite pet using fixed phrases. This idea is applicable as it
enables the pupils to develop their fluency in the English language and enhance their
confidence to talk in class in English.

Through the lesson plan reviewed, analysing is the High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS)
implemented. According to the DSKP Year 4 (2018), the pupils are capable of breaking down
information into smaller components to interpret and link these elements. Based on Bloom
Taxonomy, HOTS element particularly in analysing, Watson (2019) highlighted that students
use their judgment to begin analyzing the knowledge they have learned. It is advantageous to
the pupils to think widely to obtain information to solve a problem or make decisions. After that,
the soft skill implied is communication which tangentially improves language and presentation
skills. It efficiently boosts pupils' collaborative skills and the way they express ideas. These
cognitive skills are also essential for learners to increase personal growth and interaction in the
classroom.

The cross-curriculum element (CCE) is value. The teacher intends to build positive
character traits in the pupils. It significantly influences their morale within their learning
community and academic achievement. Then, the value instillation stated in the lesson plan is
love for animals, especially for young learners. Hence, it can promote affectional relationships
between humans and companion animals. Lastly, the teaching aids utilized are picture cards of
petting animals, audio, a YouTube video, a worksheet, and big pictures. In her article, Sudhakar
(2021) states that aids such as diagrams, charts, flashcards, and videos offer learners visual
stimuli and allow them to access the material from a different vantage point. Not only it engages
pupils in learning but also clarifies the concept easily. Thus, a teacher must integrate the
teaching aids efficiently and practically.

In conclusion, a teacher must be fully prepared with a lesson plan before starting a
teaching and learning session. An excellent lesson plan is when it is practical, authentic,
reliable, and valid. Therefore, the teacher can achieve the objectives and ensure classroom
management. Indirectly, the pupils comprehend and appreciate the knowledge. Then, it can
enforce teacher-pupil relationships and foster a positive learning environment for lifelong
learning.
