1.0 Definition

In this essay, I will discuss the evaluation of the effectiveness of the learning
package I produced for Task 1 of the coursework for EDUP 3053 Technology for
Teaching and Learning. Evaluation is a process that critically examines a program. It
involves collecting and analyzing information about a program’s activities,
characteristics, and outcomes. Its purpose is to make judgments about a program, to
improve its effectiveness, and to inform programming decisions (Patton, 1987).

2.0 Objective and rational of using the assessment instrument

An assessment instrument is defined as a measuring tool to collect data (Subali,

2012). The objective of using this assessment in the classroom was to evaluate the
effectiveness of the learning package used to teach the students. This is supported by
Gronlund, Linn and Miller (2009) who state that one of the main purposes of creating
and using assessment instruments is to identify students’ learning needs. For this
package, I have chosen Google Form survey as my assessment instrument. Surveys
are a research method used for collecting data from a specific group of respondents to
gain information and insight on various topics. The survey was devised and used to
identify the strengths and weaknesses of the multimedia package and how it helped the
students in the teaching and learning process in an ESL classroom. As Hattie and
Timperly (2007) stated, corrective feedback develops learners’ learning quality and
teachers’ teaching quality. I have included my assessment instrument here as a
reference:
3.0 The effectiveness of using the interactive multimedia learning package during
PBS based on data collected using the assessment instrument

Interactive multimedia learning package is an interactive tool that can maximize

online teaching and learning experiences with its features. Its interactive features can
attract students' attention and keep them engaged. Interactive multimedia learning
package can promote 21st century teaching and learning approach. During my 2 nd PBS,
I have given my assessment for the students to fill in so that the effectiveness of my
interactive multimedia learning package can be evaluated. Here are the responses:
A total of 8 students have taken part in this survey. Two questions were inserted
in the survey and the answers have been recorded for this survey to be analyzed.
Based on the table and graph above, the first criteria is the level of effort put into
creating the learning package. 2 students said it was satisfactory, 2 stated it was very
good and 4 students found it excellent. The second criteria is the level of skill or
knowledge before discovering the learning package. The majority of the students found
the content easy to understand and it could help achieve the learning objectives.
4.0 Suggestions to improve on the interactive multimedia learning package

There are some suggestions that can be taken into consideration to improve the
quality of the multimedia package. Firstly, is that the students are easily distracted when
the lesson goes on for too long. Studies show that attention cannot remain at the same
intensity for a long time on the same work (Cicekci & Sadik, 2019). Therefore, the length
of the video included in the package can be shortened in order to keep students'
attention for longer. Next, the use of just visual and auditory resources may have made
it difficult for pupils with different learning styles to grasp the subject. Hence, other
materials, such as role-playing sessions, could be added to the package to cater to
various pupils.

5.0 Conclusion

To summarise, teachers should use technology to promote and enhance student

comprehension of course material. Overall, implementing this interactive multimedia
package in an ESL classroom increases student involvement and increases the
efficiency of the course. As a result, teachers should improve their technology skills in
order to capture the attention and interests of their students.
