Effects of Mobile Devices in the Academic Performance of Grade 12 Stem Section

This is a quantitative research that specifies the positive effects of mobile devices

in academic performance of a student. The researchers defined Mobile phones as a

technology that shares voice, data, and application. This made Mobile devices especially

smart phones become part of every person’s life. They said that this helps students to

broaden their academic knowledge by accessing to the information world and easily

communicate to their academic community. The world of technology has become vast

and popularly wide around the globe, to the fact that technology aspired students to make

their interests and even complete their courses through online education, Internet made it

easier to take exams saving the student vital time and stress wasted upon travelling.

According to the past researches mobile learning is indeed helpful because you can

asynchronously learn in every place possible whether it be at a cafe or at home. The

researchers wanted to know the advantages of mobile devices with learning so that they

can see how beneficial a mobile device is in a student’s learning.

The researchers hypothesized that mobile devices made a big contribution for

academic performance, where in their null hypothesis is when there is no significant

relationship that mobile devices help students whereas the alternative hypothesis is that

mobile devices can affect their academic performance. According to previous and present

studies technology is our understanding of how to combine capabilities to produce the

desired product.

As a result, it is said that the knowledge for technology grows while understanding it. A

given example is a gadget while growing, it can benefit people such as students, but it can

become somewhat be a hindrance after a long time. To successfully identify the effects of
mobile devices researchers used a descriptive method using a survey form via Google

Form with a 25 student respondents from Grade 12 Stem Section Einstein which the

researchers used to gather information of positive results of mobile devices toward the

academic performance of the students.

The results are presented in a tabular form with a 25 respondents where 72 %

used mobile device for finding answers, 12 % use it to gain knowledge and 16% use it for

communication where majority of the respondents use it for finding answers. The 48% of

the respondents for the next question said that the good effects in their academic

performance by using mobile is understanding things a lot easier, 40% said that they got

high grades and 12% said to gain knowledge. 36% of the respondents on the last

question answered that mobile devices are beneficial because students can have access to

the latest news and information, 4% said that it expands their knowledge, 40% said that it

helps them understand things easier while 20% said that they can communicate with their

teacher and classmate if they do not understand a certain topic. In conclusion there are a

lot of advantages of using mobile devices in students learning although there are people

who are experiencing troubles with their situation and internet there are still advantages

for students to learn even at their home. The research concludes that mobile devices has a

lot of positive effects and advantages for students learning. However the use of mobile

devices should balance in a nice way in terms of academic performance.
