1) An overhanging beam ABC has rectangular cross-section with width b and height h.
Knowing that the maximum tensile stress (principal stress) at point D is 1 = 25
MPa, determine
i) The magnitude of load P
ii) The maximum shear stress at D
Use L=1m, b=25mm, h=150mm, and d=25mm

3) The beam ABC shown in the given figure below has simple support at A and B
and an overhang from B to C. A uniform load intensity Q= 4 KN /m acts through
out the length of the beam. The is constructed of steel plates (12mm
thickness.)Welded to form the channel section, the dimension of which is shown
in fig b. calculate the maximum tensile and compressive stresses in the beam due
to load Q. (………25%)

4. In the figure below, columns AB and CD have pinned ends. They are
made of an aluminum alloy(E=72.0GPa), and have equal rectangular
cross sections of 20mm by 30mm. Determine the magnitude of P
