I. Type 1
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

A> Introduction: 
1. General statement: paraphrase lại đề bài
It is thought by some people that ....
2. Thesis statement: trả lời câu hỏi của đề bài - khẳng định xu hướng/ giải pháp này mang
đến cả lợi ích lẫn bất lợi.
This trend would create certain benefits but there will also be some drawbacks
B> Body: 
(lưu ý độ dài paragraph 1 phải tương đương paragraph 2 để thể hiện sự công bằng đối với 2
khía cạnh)
1. Paragraph 1: Dùng cấu trúc song hành nêu ra các advantages/ benefits 
 Câu topic sentence 1 giới thiệu khái quát các ưu điểm:
On the one hand, it is clear that .... would bring about several advantages.
 Nói về ưu điểm 1:
One evident strength is that it would.....  In other words,...
 Nói về ưu điểm 2:
Another reason is that it would help.....
 Nói về ưu điểm 3:

2. Paragraph 2: Dùng cấu trúc song hành nêu ra các disadvantages/ drawbacks
 Câu topic sentence 2 giới thiệu khái quát các khuyết điểm:
On the other hand, there are some obvious disadvantages that would arise.
 Nói về khuyết điểm 1:
First,....... It means that ......
 Nói về khuyết điểm 2:
Second,..... In particular, ......
 Nói về khuyết điểm 3:
Finally,....... For example,...
C> Conclusion:
Paraphrase thesis statement và nói tóm tắt, tổng quát các advantage & disadvantage đó là gì
(cố gắng học word form để vận dụng các danh từ ghép)
In conclusion, there are plus points to..... regarding {ưu điểm 1, 2 & 3}. However, the downside
would emerge consequently in terms of {khuyết điểm 1, 2 & 3}. 
 
Note: CAUTIOUS & IMPERSONAL LANGUAGE 
Phải dùng Cautious Language cho dạng 1&2: đây là những từ, cấu trúc để đưa ra ý
kiến rất thận trọng. Ở đây, đề bài yêu cầu bạn đưa ra những Advantages và Disadvantages của
một Solution, mà Solution đó ở dạng giả định, nghĩa là điều đó chưa xảy ra (theo đề bài). Vì
vậy, bạn không thể dùng ngôn ngữ một cách quá chắc chắn như: must, have to, it’s someone’s
responsiblity, someone has to be responsible for something,... Thay vào đó, dùng cách chia của
câu điều kiện loại 2. Ở đây, bạn sử dụng cấu trúc như: should/could/may/might... + verb.

Chỉ dùng Impersonal language cho dạng 1, tức là các cấu trúc/ cụm từ không thể hiện
quan điểm cá nhân. Do bài dạng 1 không yêu cầu bạn đưa ra ý kiến cá nhân, nên phải diễn đạt
theo kiểu khách quan. Không dùng In my opinion/viewpoint / I think that../ I believe that...., etc
mà đi thẳng vào vấn đề luôn. Ngoài ra, tuyệt đối không dùng 'you' vì chẳng có 'you'nào ở đây
hết ngoài trừ giảm khảo chấm thi mà phải dùng các đại từ chỉ người chung chung, như people,
everyone. 
Tuy nhiên với dạng 2 khi phải nên ra là cái nào quan trọng hơn thì đó chắc chắn là quan
điểm cá nhân nên hoàn toàn có thể dùng personal language.

SAMPE TYPE 1:

English is becoming the most prominent language in the world.


What are the advantages and disadvantages of having only one language in the world?

It is a fact that English is in an outstanding position in the world as it is used globally nowadays.
This has caused people to think about whether it is beneficial to have an exclusive language worldwide.
Having one language would bring certain benefits but there will also be some drawbacks.

On the one hand, it is clear that to communicate in one global language would bring about several
advantages. One evident strength is that it would reduce the language barrier by strengthening greater
understanding between countries. In other words, the flow of information is no longer deterred, thereby
promoting learning and mediating conflicts. Another reason is that it would help to develop a healthier world
economy by enhancing trade facilitation. Last but not least, cultural and religious discrimination can be
reduced to some extent if all people in the world communicate in the same language.

On the other hand, there are some obvious disadvantages that would arise. First, globalization in
language terms will undermine cultural diversity. It means that the special features regarding ways of life
worldviews of each culture would all be lost if there were only one language. Second, having one
global language will definitely turn this world into a monotonous place without any uniqueness of different
areas. Consequently, people would not be interested in discovering the world.

Finally, this will also be a disadvantageous point for individuals with high
linguistic intelligence since there are no other languages for them to challenge their
brain.
In conclusion, there are plus points to speak one language globally regarding better understanding,
trade facilitation, and decreasing discrimination. However, the downside would emerge consequently in
terms of the loss of cultural diversity, the lack of motivation to explore the world, and a minus point for
language intelligence.

II. TYPE 2:
Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
A> Introduction:

2. Thesis statement: trả lời câu hỏi của đề bài - nêu rõ quan điểm cá nhân là advantage
quan trọng hơn hay disadvantage quan trọng hơn.
This trend would introduce both pros and cons, but I think that the benefits do outweigh
the drawbacks.

B> Body: 
1. Paragraph 1: Viết về khía cạnh mà mình cho là ít quan trọng hơn
 Câu topic sentence 1 giới thiệu khái quát: 
On the one hand, it is clear that .... would bring about several disadvantages.
 Nói về điểm 1:

Viết 1 câu nói là vấn đề này có cả 2 mặt advantage & disadvantage, nhưng theo quan điểm của
tôi thì advantage/ disadvantage quan trọng hơn.

be more important regarding {điểm 1,2 & 3}.

Nhìn chung là bạn nên thể hiện quan điểm cá nhân ở 3 vị trí:

positive hay negative hay là cả hai.
 Thiên về một phía positive development:

This development/ trend is positive thanks to the benefits which have been
brought to human life.
 Thiên về một phía negative development:
This development/ trend is negative due to the drawbacks which have been
brought to human life.
 Cân bằng cả hai phía:
This development/ trend has introduced both positive and negative aspects
because of the benefits and drawbacks which have been brought to human life. 
B> Body (Đối Với Quan Điểm Thiên Về Một Phía): 
 Vì cả 2 paragraphs đều chỉ được ủng hộ 1 phía (positive hoặc negative) nên cách
brainstorm tốt nhất là tư duy theo góc độ và lĩnh vực.
 Đối với góc độ thì đó là người, đối tượng; tức là trend này positive đối với ai, tầng lớp,
thành phần nào. Các góc độ phổ biến nhất là:    
 - individuals
- families/ schools
- governments
 Đối với lĩnh vực thì phân tích là các điểm positive này đóng góp cho lĩnh vực, ngành
nghề nào. Các lĩnh vực phổ biến là:    
- economics
- politics
- culture
- society
- healthcare
- education
 - agriculture

It is a fact that English is in an outstanding position in the world as it is used globally nowadays.


This has caused people to think about whether it is beneficial to have an exclusive language
worldwide. This development/ trend is positive thanks to the benefits which have been brought
to human life.

It is clear that to communicate in one global language would bring about many advantages for
the whole society from each individual to the government. One evident strength for each person
is that it would reduce the language barrier, thereby encouraging people's confidence in
interacting with others from different areas of the world. Many people, especially the elderly,
may no longer be afraid of foreign languages and can freely travel everywhere. In
addition, governments can easily enhance diplomatic activities and discussions with better
understanding. This would lead to numerous subsequent outcomes, such as saving national
budget from reducing enormous translation and interpretation costs of international meetings
and conferences. 

Also, this development will lead to benefits in various areas, especially economics, education
and culture. First, English as a global language would help to strengthen trade facilitation
among nations, thereby developing healthier economies. Second, when the flow of information
is no longer deterred by different languages, cross-border information exchanges would
happen more frequently and knowledge would be delivered more accurately without problems in
translation. Last but not least, cultural and religious discrimination can be reduced to some
extent if all people in the world communicate in the same language.

In conclusion, globalisation in terms of language would show effects on the positive side.


Individuals and governments will be beneficial through better cross-national communications.
Besides, there are many plus points in economics, education and culture terms.
