PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY PRACTICALS

1. Thermoregulation
2. Transport across the cell membrane
3. Count the blood cells, estimate haemoglobin, determine packed cell volume/haematocrit, erythrocyte
sedimentation rate and blood grouping and cross-matching
4. Measure the arterial blood pressure and heart rate and the effects on body position, venous pressures,
examine the venous valves, and auscultate for the heart sounds
5. Measure pulse rate
6. Position electrodes, record and interpret results of ECG
7. Measure the respiratory rate, rhythm and the variations in different activities
8. Measure the respiratory volumes and calculate the lung capacities using the spirometer
9. Measure pH, glucose, urea (nitrite), blood, bilirubin, urobilinogen and ketones in urine using Laboratory
sticks
10. Measure the specific gravity of urine by the urine dilution and concentration tests
11. Measure the basal metabolic rate (BMR) under ideal and other conditions
12. Test urine for early diagnosis of pregnancy
13. Examine reflexes (stretch or tendon, cutaneous or superficial, corneal and conjunctival) in patients.
14. Test abnormalities of the special senses (taste, smell, hearing, and vision)
