The Vehicle That Uses Human Interface Engineering

According to The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), 100,000 vehicle

crashes each year are the direct result of driver fatigue. These crashes resulted in
approximately1,550 deaths, 71,000 injuries and $12.5 billion in monetary losses. The
statistic on road fatality shows that human error constitutes of 64.84 % road accidents
fatality and 17.4 % due to technical factors

The proposed poster is amalgamation of all technology available but are yet to embed in
a passenger car. The design shall use electromechanical sensors on steering wheel and
transmission axles / wheels, Optional -face recognition system/ security questions. [ drunk
driving and theft]

The strain gage / load sensors embedded in steering wheel shall sense your behavioral
change in case of anger and drunk/ reckless driving. Based on comparative algorithms,
the car ECU shall select what shall be - maximum speed of car or whether to even start
the car in certain cases.
In case of incidents of sharp turns at certain speed, the sensors shall program the fuel
injection system to lower down the speed of car
The sensors shall self-program the fuel injection module of the car after monitoring the
psychological health and then set a bar on your speed.

In addition, a red flash shall beep for 10 minutes, warning other drivers your car as
potential threat to avoidaccidents.

Steering Column Load Cells are multi-component sensors designed to measure multiple
forces and moments simultaneously. These sensors utilize strain gages configured into
multiple Wheatstone Bridge
circuits to produce the sensing elements. the strain gauge or the slip ring, the flat spiral
spring (30) or the radio receiver can be connected to a control apparatus. The control
apparatus can process the steering torque measured by the strain gauge. a bridge
amplifier is integrated into the control apparatus. The integrated bridge amplifier can both
provide the Supply Voltage required and amplify the measurement signal. If the signal
crosses the threshold, the secondary ECU can command a fuel regulation to slow down
the vehicle and amber light. For installation in dirty, humid, or rugged environments,
it is suggested that the connection be shielded against dust or moisture with shrink tubing
or other protective material.

Every day, facing with traffic jam is usually situation that cannot be avoided. Trapped in
traffic jam give some influence on the style of driving for the most drivers. The drivers tend
to loss their hand from steering now because getting some tiredness and feeling bored.
While using cell phones while driving, drivers tend to loss their hand from steering
So, the proposed system monitors drivers grip of both hands-on steering wheel system at
range of speed and decide if an alarm should go off for driver and other cars near the car.
Multiple honking, banging on steering wheel also shall be sensed and ECU shall take the
executive action to warn and control speed. Sharp turns taken at speed also shall be
monitored with same logic.
It is convenient to the driver and the system made it function less based on certain
conditions to overcome, the system needs to function in some range of speed and decide
that if the speed of car less than 40 km/h, overall system is in off mode
Pedal Force Transducer
Steering Operation Force Transducer- Steering force (torque) and steering angle are
strain output. Driver fatigue is a major cause of fatal road accidents and has significant
implications in road safety. In recent years, researcher have investigated steering wheel
grip force as an alternative method to detect driver fatigue noninvasively and in real time.
A fatigue detection system works by monitoring the grip force and changes in the grip
force the sensor consists of robust polymer thick film (PTF) devices that exhibit a
decrease in resistance with increase in force applied to the surface of the sensor.

This paper presents a low-cost and simple distributed force sensor that is particularly
suitable for measuring grip force and hand position on a steering wheel. The sensor can
be used in automotive active safety systems that aim at detecting driver’s fatigue, which is
a major issue to prevent road accidents.

The wheel torque meter consists of a torque detector with a strain gauge type
torque transducer, a telemeter receiver and a secondary ECU connected to main ECU.
The strain gauge type torque transducer is equipped between hub and wheel at the drive
axle tire, because of the narrow width of this transducer, and it is possible to be placed
against vehicle without significant conversion of the vehicle
Wind shield rain sensor can also be used to control driver speed by using a high value
gate in ECU secondary logic. Nonetheless, sensors are to be in hermetically sealed
structure and waterproof

In addition, the face recognition algorithms and security questions shall identify the driver
(no need of keys). In case if driver is drunk, he may not answer certain percentage of
security questions and then car ECU may seek additional permission to start the car.
