ACTIVITIES
Subject Matter: Vertical and Horizontal Bar Graph

Objectives: At the end of 50 minutes, 90% of the pupils


will be able to:
a. interpret data presented in different
kinds of bar graphs (vertical/
horizontal),
b. construct simple bar graph,
c. display data in vertical or horizontal
bar graph using manipulative objects,
d. show active participation and
cooperation during activities and class
discussion.

Review:
Group Activity (GAME): Think, Move and
Write

The teacher will group the students into two


groups and flash the questions. Each group
will choose a representative to write the
answers on the board. The first who can write
the correct answer will have the point and the
group who got more points will be the
winner.
Motivation:
Individual Activity (Name your Favorite
Fruit)

The teacher will provide box with the pictures


of his/her pupils. The pupils will select his/her
picture from the box and paste it above the
name of his/her favorite fruit.
After the pupils are done with the activity, the
teacher will ask questions regarding the task
completed.
Presentation: A. Unlocking Difficulties
In order for the pupils to understand the terms
VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL, the teacher
will provide signage with the words
VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL then flash
different objects or pictures arranged or
patterned vertically and horizontally and let
the pupils identify by raising the signage.
After that the teacher will let the pupils define
the words vertical and horizontal based on the
completed activity
B. Presenting the Main Topic
The teacher will flash pictures of vertical and
horizontal graphs and let the students observe.
The teacher will ask questions regarding the
similarities and differences of the two graphs.

Discussion: GROUP ACTIVITY


Differentiated Activity
The teacher will group the pupils into 3
groups and named it vertical, horizontal, and
bar group then perform the following
activities:
 Vertical Group
Assemble the parts of a bar graph by
following the steps provided. Paste on
a cartolina then on the board.

 Horizontal Group
Study the bar graph and answer the
provided questions.

 Bar Group
Label the parts of a bar graph.

After the activity is completed, the


representative of the group will present the
output.

Application: GROUP ACTIVITY

With the same group of pupils they will


perform another differentiated activity/
 Vertical Group
Count the number of the blocks in the
box. Use it as bars of a bar graph to
represent its number according to its
color. Answer the questions by writing the
correct answer in the space provided for
you.

 Horizontal Group
Combine the same items that you can
found in the box. Show its number by
using colored paper. Answer the
questions below the graph.

 Bar Group
Combine and count the same kind of
vegetables. Graph its number by using
string beans then answer the questions
correctly.

The students will report their output.

Generalization: Ask questions to generalize the concept


learned about the topic.

Evaluation: The students will interpret the data on the bar


graph and answer the questions given.
