INTEGRATING STUDY CASE

The Medical Appointment

First of all, and before starting with our study case, we need to learn more about the tool
that we will be using in this study case:

Flipgrid is a powerful tool, which allows us to create video chains, in order to team up with
friend, or discuss about various topics.

Now that we have talked about this tool, let’s get started!

For this study case, we need to team up with one classmate, in order to play the role of a
doctor, and a patient. Take into account that this is a role play game, and it’s not intended
to give real-life advices which might harm you seriously, this is an English class and we’re
not playing the role of real doctors. This activity aims to practice what we have studied
along the module (Vocabulary - Grammar - Expressions).

Situation #1
One student play the role of a Doctor, and the other one plays the role of a Patient. Each
patient will go to a medical appointment mentioning that he/she has the following
symptoms:
 Loss in interests in daily activities
 Appetite or weight changes
 Sleep changes

 Anger and irritability

 Loss of energy
 Reckless behaviour
 Concentration problems
The doctor and the students, need to talk about the symptoms mentioned above and tell
him/her what he/she needs to do. Both, in the conversation, need to talk about food,
countable and uncountable nouns, give descriptions, and directions as well. On the other
hand, we need to use modal verbs, the present continuous, and comparisons. To conclude,
the patient need to send an email to his doctor, following up about his/her current medical
situation (Este correo es el que se debe subir a la plataforma, en un archivo de word).

Situation #2
Student and Doctor change roles. The patient will go to a medical appoinment mentioning
that he/she has the following symptoms:
 Shortness of breath
 Chest tightness and pain
 Trouble sleeping
 A whistiling sound when inhaling and exhailing
 Coughing and wheezing attacks
The doctor and the students, need to talk about the symptoms mentioned above and tell
him/her what he/she needs to do. Both, in the conversation, need to talk about food,
countable and uncountable nouns, give descriptions, and directions as well. On the other
hand, we need to use modal verbs, the present continuous, and comparisons. To conclude,
the patient need to send an email to his doctor, following up about his/her current medical

Study Case Deliverables:

 Flipgrip video link with both participations (Situation #1 / Situation #2, mentioned
above).
 Email sent to the doctor, following up the medical appointment and informing
his/her current situation.
