Upskilling of Key Stage 1 Teachers in Design Thinking and Mathematics and
Science.
Today’s session is all about Empathize, the first stage in Design Thinking in K-3
Science and Mathematics Teaching
To achieve this, we have the following enabling objectives:
1. To define empathy.
2. To explain the concepts of empathy using examples
3. 3. To relate the concept of empathy to classroom situations.
3 minutes
Motivation/Priming Activity

Q: What is the relationship of Origami in design thinking in empathy?

A: Origami is the ancient art of paper folding, it has applications in the modern
classroom for teaching geometry, thinking skills, fractions, problem solving and fun
science. I t provides both mental and physical stimulus with exercise. Use of hands
stimulates areas of the brain, improving short term memory. It offers a calming and 15
relaxing effect by following simple step by step process which can be repeated and minutes
taught again and again until success is achieved.
