It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an

early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this option?
What sort of punishment should parents and teachers be allowed to use to teach
good behavior to children?
It is necessary for children to learn to distinguish right and wrong. Sometimes, parents
use punishments to teach their children when they make a mistake. While punishing
children is necessary, only some forms of punishment are appropriate.
Admittedly, punishments could help children learn whether their actions are right or
wrong. For example, if they commit wrongdoings such as disobeying or telling a lie,
punishments such as depriving them of their favorite toys or stopping them meeting
their friends can help children realize their mistakes. For instance, when I skipped
classes in secondary school, my parents decided to let me go to school in foot rather
than take me to school. This really helped me realize my mistake and after that, I
never skip my classes again to avoid being punished.
However, parents and teachers should choose appropriate ways to teach good
behaviors to their children. Harsh corporal punishment can bring negative effects to
children such as mental disorder and severe depression. For example, young people
who are regularly beaten by parents will have some problems with their mental health,
they may think their parents do not love them and always feel lonely. Moreover, in a
worst case scenario, some children even want to suicide. Instead, parents should use
alternative ways to teach their children. For instance, if their children do not do
homework or have low test scores, parents should not hit them. They should tell their
children that if they do their homework and have higher points in the exam, you will
give them money or buy them what they want.
In conclusion, it seems to me that punishment is of significance to educate children on
how to distinguish right from wrong, but punishments should be carefully chosen so
that children can learn their lessons without severe consequences or mental problems.
