Nursing Research II
Module: Evaluating Research Reports (Qualitative)

Qualitative Research Report Evaluation

Instructions: The guidelines below are organized according to the structure of most research
articles – Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion (IMRAD). The second column
lists key critiquing questions that have broad applicability to qualitative studies. Evaluate the
research report on the third column by:
(a) Answering the question with a YES, NO, or NOT APPLICABLE, and;
(b) Supporting your answer with a brief narrative.
Examples:
Title – YES. The title mentioned the experience to be explored and the population of interest.
Abstract – NO. The abstract presented the major themes but left out the sub-themes.
