Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students will be provided with differentiated instruction by having a PowerPoint with the instructions
as well as a printed copy for any students that might want to take notes. My content will be
interactive and allow for participation by all using technology. The FITT principles are taught as a goal
for improving physical activity which applies to all students. They are allowed to express themselves
in participation and during a survey at the end of the lesson. I gave the students autonomy to decide
which photos to take in the time limit and built in social interaction for student success. Lastly, I used
scaffolding of the material so that the students could understand why I was teaching the content. I
laid a foundation and built upon it by having the students use that knowledge in a real scenario.
Lesson idea implementation:
I addressed the standards before and after the scavenger hunt. I had created a PowerPoint that had content
about the F.I.T.T. principles. This class was created to last around 20 minutes and be a very introductory
lesson and hunt. It was comprehensive enough to last a whole class period or lead into a unit. I created a
google forms survey for students to complete as a review of the lesson. This was a good formative assessment
and allowed me to see what content I need to cover in future lessons. I think pairing this with goal setting
would be a great expansion of the lesson because this lesson would serve as the “needs assessment” which is
the first step in creating a SMART goal.
Part of this activity lets students observe their heart rate and compare it to the healthy heart rate zones. I
think that setting a goal for the next week where they will try to achieve hit a certain heart rate X number of
times would be good. This would encourage students to be active and for them to try to attain that SMART
goal. Once the students returned from the hunt, I reviewed some of the content about calculating a healthy
heart rate zone. Lastly, I assigned a survey as a Ticket Out the Door.
Reflective Practice:
After teaching the lesson, I realized there were steps I could have taken to improve the lesson. First, I would

use Nearpod instead of PowerPoint. I want to incorporate students’ involvement with the content more and
noticed that to be one of the shortcomings of my lesson. I also could have done better with giving instruction
by demonstrating the use of the app. One thing I thought about was its use to dive deeper into a unit. I
planned this out as an introductory lesson by using scaffolding where I could keep building if I wanted.
Overall, the lesson went well, but I could have built the content to be more interactive and applicable to their
class content.
