Lesson Idea Name: All About Fossils!

Content Area/Grade Level(s): 3rd Grade Science

Content Standard Addressed: S3E2.b Develop a model to describe the sequence and conditions required for
an organism to become fossilized.

Technology Standard Addressed: Empowered Learner 1c Students who use technology to seek feedback that
informs their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.

Selected Technology Tool: Padlet

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☒ Analyzing ☒ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The activity I have planned, using the BBPT Padlet, supports all students
inside and outside of the classroom. I especially like this tool because it can be implemented anywhere in the
lesson and/or lecture. The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework is supported through this lesson by
implementing technology efficiently, sharing content in a variety of ways, and offering choices for how
students demonstrate their knowledge. The students are being supported through the action and expression
component by watching videos and looking at pictures and expressing their knowledge after viewing these
materials.

Lesson idea implementation: In this activity, the students will follow the instructions on the Padlet that I, as
the teacher, have created. This activity will be introduced at the end of the lesson as a knowledge check. This
should only take twenty minutes for the students to complete, including the video watch times. Student
learning will be assessed through the comments and the practice quiz. The final product will be used to
differentiate learning by ensuring that the student is learning from this activity. The lesson will be concluded
by going over the answers to the practice quiz. I will provide feedback through the Padlet itself by
commenting back to a student and/or liking different comments.

Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, I feel that these activities support student learning by
checking their knowledge, completing a word search for a brain break, and collaborating with their peers. This
activity could be further enhanced by adding in a worksheet instead of the quiz, but both are just as efficient
