Disposition Assignment: Survey, Reflection, and Plan

Overview
This assignment is designed to introduce you to the dispositions for the teaching profession as stated by
the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards. These standards outline
what prospective teachers should know and be able to do to ensure every PK-12 student reaches the
goal of being ready to enter college or the workforce in today’s world.

In the School of Education and Human Sciences dispositions are assessed and monitored for teacher
candidates at entry, during, and at exit of the program. Disposition assessments are completed by
faculty at the end of each semester. Students who are interested in pursuing a degree in education
should be familiar with the dispositions. Teacher candidates should meet expected performance and/or
make progress in areas where there are concerns.

Purpose
There are two main purposes for this assignment.
1. Increase Awareness – Through this assignment, you will become familiar with the dispositions
and how these dispositions relate to teaching. To accomplish this goal, you will complete the
Disposition Survey (link to be provided by your instructor).
2. Prompt Reflection and Growth– Through this assignment, you will reflect on your current
dispositions, identify strengths and areas of need related to the dispositions, and create a plan
for growth.

Instructions
1. Complete the Disposition Survey using the link provided by your instructor.Although the items on
the survey are not graded, completion of the survey is necessary to complete the rest of the
assignment. You are not expected to be proficient in all areas captured on the survey.
2. Review your responses to the Disposition Survey and write a reflection to address the following
prompts. Headings for your paper have been provided. Each section should have at least one well-
constructed paragraph.

A. Strengths
What did you identify as your strengths related to the dispositions in the survey? Identify at
least three specific items from the survey that are strengths for you. Provide an example of how
you have demonstrated this disposition in your studies, work, activities, etc. How could each of
these dispositions be beneficial in the education profession? Be specific.
B. Areas for Growth
What did you identify as your areas of need/growth/improvement related to the dispositions in
this survey? Identify at least two items you want to work on during this semester. How did you
rate yourself in these areas?
C. Plan
What are 3 specific ways you can work to continue to strengthen the dispositions you have
identified?
D. Teacher Dispositions
Review the Definitions of Dispositions summary. Choose one construct. Summarize it in your
own words, describe how you have exhibited it or how you could exhibit it, and describe why it
might be an important trait for a teacher.
