This document provides information for Assignment-3 for the course CE 6121: Advanced Structural Steel Design. It instructs students to solve problems related to determining critical buckling stresses of rectangular steel plates under different edge conditions, and to include relevant drawings with their answers. Students must submit their work by Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

1. By solving the general governing differential equation of plate buckling,
determine the minimum value (numerical) of parameter k in the formula of critical stress c for a rectangular plate subjected to in-plane compressive stress in long direction with the short edges simply supported and,
a. Both the long edges fully restrained against rotation.
b. One long edge is free and other long edge is fully restrained against rotation.
