The Registrar,
The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti,
Ekiti State.
Dear Sir,
APPLICATION LETTER FOR THE POSTION OF LECTURER
Kindly receive my application for the lecturer position with The Federal
Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti recently advertised on your website. I am a professional educator
of higher learning in Nutrition and I have experience working with research organizations
in the same field. With my Ph.D in Human Nutrition and consumer science and three
years of working experience, I will make an asset to your institution in equipping
students with knowledge.
In my work at Kingstone College as an assistant lecturer in the faculty of Food
Technology for three years, I have contributed to research and preparing lectures,
preparing and invigilating examinations, overseeing the implementation of the
curriculum, and marking examinations. I have overseen three students’ cohorts
graduating successfully.
I have good leadership, organization, and communication skills that will add value
to your institutions. I am motivated to help students acquire practical and theoretical
based learning. I welcome any opportunity for an interview to discuss more on what I can
bring into your institution.
Thank you.

Background of study
The background of the study establishes the context of the research. This section explains
why this particular research topic is important and essential to understanding the main
aspects of the study. Usually, the background forms the first section of a research
article/thesis and justifies the need for conducting the study and summarizes what the
study aims to achieve.
Statement of Problems
A research problem is a statement about an area of concern, a condition to be improved, a
difficulty to be eliminated, or a troubling question that exists in scholarly literature, in
theory, or in practice that points to the need for meaningful understanding and deliberate
investigation. In some social science disciplines the research problem is typically posed
in the form of a question. A research problem does not state how to do something, offer a
vague or broad proposition, or present a value question.
Research Question
A research question is a question that a study or research project aims to answer. This
question often addresses an issue or a problem, which, through analysis and interpretation
of data, is answered in the study’s conclusion. In most studies, the research question is
written so that it outlines various aspects of the study, including the population and
variables to be studied and the problem the study addresses.
Research Hypothesis
A research hypothesis is a specific, clear, and testable proposition or predictive statement
about the possible outcome of a scientific research study based on a particular property of
a population, such as presumed differences between groups on a particular variable or
relationships between variables. Specifying the research hypotheses is one of the most
important steps in planning a scientific quantitative research study. A quantitative
researcher usually states an a priori expectation about the results of the study in one or
more research hypotheses before conducting the study, because the design of the research
study and the planned research design often is determined by the stated hypotheses.

Research Objectives
Research objectives describe concisely what the research is trying to achieve. They
summarize the accomplishments a researcher wishes to achieve through the project and
provides direction to the study. A research objective must be achievable, i.e., it must be
framed keeping in mind the available time, infrastructure required for research, and other
resources. Before forming a research objective, you should read about all the
developments in your area of research and find gaps in knowledge that need to be
addressed. This will help you come up with suitable objectives for your research project.
Significant of the Study
The Significance of the Study presents the importance of your research. It gives you an
opportunity to prove the study’s impact on your field of research, the new knowledge it
contributes, and the people who will benefit from it.
Scope of the Study
Scope of the study refers to the elements that will be covered in a research project. It
defines the boundaries of the research. The scope is always decided in the
preliminary stages of a study. Deciding it in the later stages creates a lot of ambiguity
regarding the research goals. The main purpose of the scope of the study is that it
explains the extent to which the research area will be explored and thus specifies the
parameters that will be observed within the study.
Limitation of the Study
The limitations of a study are its flaws or shortcomings which could be the  result of
unavailability of resources, small sample size, flawed methodology, etc.  No study is
completely flawless or inclusive of all possible aspects.
Definition of Terms
Definition of terms is usually an annex to a work (book, research paper, pamphlet, etc.)
either at the beginning or more likely near the end with a list of acronyms, jargon, credits,
etc. This is an important part of Research paper or report is that in which the key or
important terms in the study are clearly defined.
