REPORT TOPIC:
“Identification of the Historical importance of the Text and Examining the
Author’s Main Argument and Point of view.”
Objectives:
Examining the text as a historical artifact, and understanding the social,
cultural, and political context of the text.
To review, the point of view of a written piece is the attitude or opinion on the
topic. As the reader, you should evaluate, or assess the value, of the author's
point of view. This is especially true when two writers have different opinions
on the same topic.
Introduction:
When studying or dealing historical sources you need to be aware for documents,
sources in the author’s point of view. Historical text informs the readers about key
events and important people from the past.
Historical text gives the reader an understanding of what led up to the important
event in history. Examples of historical text are: Notification history books,
autobiographies, biographies, historical research, websites, diaries, social
studies/history textbooks, past newspapers, encyclopedia.

Literature
Refers to written or spoken works of art that are valued for their artistic or
intellectual merit.
Historical Heritage
Refers to the artifacts, sites and cultural practices that are inherited from past
generations.
Historical Fiction
Is a genre of literature that features fictional characters and events set within a
historical context?
Contextual exploration
Allows to comprehend certain ideas that may not have been clear. Examining a
particular topic or event.
Context
Is imperative in determining the meaning of a literary text.

Point of View
Refers to a perspective of the authors towards a particular person or an event. And
this was shaping a period of time due to his/her experiences, motives, beliefs, origin,
age, gender, status, and ideology.
Primary Sources
Was made by an author based on experience and views of an event, tragedy, or
phenomena. It could be a novel, diaries, and legal documents.
Secondary Sources
These are works that analyzed critic, review, and interpret in an historical event or an
era.
In analyzing Author’s main argument and point of view. You should ask yourselves?
The following Questions:
1. Who is the speaker or the source?
(Age, gender, profession, work, social status etc.)
2. What is the occasion?
(Circumstances, Current situation, place, time etc.)
3. Who is the intended audience?
(Written privately or written to be read/heard by others.)
4. What is the purpose
(Motives, Beliefs, ideology etc.)
5. What is the Subject?
(Topic, Content, and ideas.)
6. What is the tone?
(Emotions, feelings, etc.)
