Learning Competency
The learners should be able to:
determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in a particular atom
ENGAGE ( 10minutes)
Using the wheel of fate, ask the following questions:
Why are the symbols of element important?
What can you see with the symbols of elements?
What do these numbers indicate?
What does the atomic number tell about?
How about the mass number?
Is the atomic number he same as the number of protons/electrons?
What makes up the atomic mass of an element/atom?
Given only the mass number and atomic number, can we tell the number of proton, electron
or neutron in an atom?
EXPLORE (20 minutes)
Using the QR Code assigned to each student let them determine the number of electrons,
protons and neutrons of a given atom.
Let them share this to their group mates and collate all answers in a given data table.
Let students present their outputs to class for further discussion.
EXPLAIN /ELABORATE (15 minutes)
From the presented data table let students determine the similarities and differences of their
outputs.
EXTEND( 5 minutes)
Let students locate the atom in a blank periodic table given only the number of
protons/electrons and neutrons.
EVALUATION( 5 minutes)
