ALGAE
I. OBJECTIVE:
To identify and find different types of algae in pond, lake, and river water.
II. APPARATUS AND MATERIALS NEEDED:
Water samples (ponds, lakes, rivers)
Glass slides
Transfer loop
Microscope
III. PROCEDURE:
1. Prepare a hanging drop slide from a sample of water. Take a drop from the bottom of the
container.
2. Examine the slide using the low and high-dry objectives.
3. Identify the algae present in the water. Use the book on
Standard Methods for identification.
4. Repeat the observation and data collection for the remaining pond water samples.

V. DATA AND RESULTS

VI. REMARKS AND CONCLUSION

The sample is taken from Burnham Park Lake which was observed under the
microscope. Five different types of algae were identified, they are CHLORELLA, MICROSPORA,
TETRASPORA, LEMANEA, and SPIROGYRA.
