Pacific Gas& Electric is being blamed for the fires in Northern California. The PG&E's

faulty equipment has been the source of all their problems. The utility's equipment broke and

destroyed a lot of structures, thus becoming the biggest fire to occur this year. The utility is

facing a lot of problems because of its aging infrastructure. The collection action problem that

is evident in the article is; the PG&E utility is meant to supply power to all residents; however,

with the recent frustrations, it has been forced to shut down, and it cannot deliver anymore.

Therefore, residents are forced to use batteries and generators.

I believe the best thing to do in this situation is to break PG&E up so that it does not to be

a monopoly power anymore. The rationale behind this is unregulated and unmonitored

monopolies affect consumers, businesses as well as the economy of the country or state. We

have seen from the article how the utility has messed up businesses and frustrated consumers by

shutting off the power to prevent more fires. By breaking PG&E's monopoly, other utilities will

be established, thus giving businesses and consumers an alternative.

Fire departments have, for a long time, been managing fires in California. Although, I believe

other institutions can chip in to help manage the problem. Institutions that deal with climate

change can be of great help. This is because, through climate change, the wildfires will be

understood better. There is a lot of dry vegetation in California, and this is a top concern. It is

important to realize that drier plants are bound to catch fire easily hence faster and bigger fires.

The regular wind events can intersect with a dry landscape, thus leading to a crisis. However, all

that can be prevented if climate change is looked into carefully.
