Objectives: To be able to:


identify the human factors that affect motivation
specify the roles of teachers and parents in student learning
detail the classroom climate conducive for learning

Module 21: Human Environmental Factors Affecting Motivation Teacher’s Affective Trait
Studies suggest that management & instructional processes are the key to learning but
interview responses emphasize teacher’s affective characteristics more than
pedagogical practice. Affective Characteristics of Effective Teachers: Caring, Fairness

The Need to Belong


•basic human need
•students who are accepted by teachers and classmates feel they belong to the class
•students who feel that they are part of the class look forward to attending &
participating
•sense of belongingness enhances their learning and performance

Bullying

•obstructs the creation of a learning community •learning environment cannot be safe


•by all means, bullying should be eliminated in schools
•can be mild, it can be intense or deeply-seated and highly violent
•safety in schools is being raised all over the world

Parent as Part of the Learners,’ Human Learning Environment The learner spends at
least six hours in school. Parents, therefore, are supposed to have more opportunity to
be with their children than teachers.

•Follow up status of their children’s performance •Supervise their children in their
homework /project
•Check their children’s notebooks •Review their children’s corrected seat works and test
papers
•Attend conferences for Parents, Teachers, and Community Association

Participate actively in school community projects Confer with children’s activities in
school Are aware of their children’s teachers when necessary Meet the friends of their

Module 22: The Classroom Climate The classroom climate is more of a product of the
interaction between and among teacher and students than that of the physical condition
of the classroom. The physical condition of the classroom may exert an influence on the
social interaction among the personalities in class but it may not contribute as much as
the classroom social interaction does.

•These classroom rules and procedure are discussed on the first days of class

•Students are involved in the design of rules and procedures •Techniques to


acknowledge and reinforce acceptable behavior and provide negative consequences
are employed

•There is a healthy balance between, dominance and cooperation
•Teacher is aware of the needs of different types of students

•Teacher is fully aware of the happenings in the class

•Students’ responsibility for their own behavior is enhanced
