OBSERVATION REPORT FOR SCHOOL VISIT

Name of the School Observed Guin-On Elementary School_______

School Address Barangay Guin-On, Calbayog City
Date of Visit __________________________________________________________
The Guin-On Elementary School is located at Brgy Guin-on Elementary School,
Calbayog City. The location is 10mins away from the City of Calbayog. Its nearby
barangays are Barangay Guimbaoyan Norte and Barangay Palanas. The community
where the Elementary School located is just a simple community. The common
barangay that we have here in Philippines. A community living simply, surrounded with
fresh air, trees and plants. The environment is very peaceful and refreshing. Based
from the photos I saw the campus school buildings were maintained and yellow and
well-painted with most shade of yellow and yellow green. Some rooms are old looking
already but they are still utilizing the rooms and maintaining it so it can be usable
that’s how resourceful we Filipinos are. The school campus is simple with enough
facilities that will accommodate the learners.

AN OBSERVATION GUIDE FOR THE CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to
record your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes,
religious figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
2. Examine how the furniture is arranged. Where is the teacher’s table located? How
are the tables and chairs/desks arranged?
3. What learning materials/equipment are present?
4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?
5. Is the room well-lighted and well-ventilated?

visual aids etc were kept neatly on the shelves. The trash bins were placed on the
left side at the back of the room. The concrete classroom was well ventilated with
glass window covered with blue curtains. The room is well-lighted and its floor is
clean and red cemented. The classroom is accommodating 16pupils and it can
accommodate like 25-35 pupils maximum. Sir Marcelino Rada was hesitant at first
when I asked him if he could be my respondent for my Field Study interview. He
was hesitant I guess because he is just a newly hired elementary teacher in fact
he said nothing special inside his classroom.

Your Analysis

1. How do the school campus and the classroom in particular create impact on the learning
of the students going to school? What are your conclusions?

The school campus takes an utmost significant part on the learning of the learners going
to school. It serves as the “home” of their learning. The school campus makes studying
exciting, interesting and gives the learner more motivation to go to school daily and avoid
absences. School campus is the learner’s home to hone their talents, discover abilities,
develop skills, meet different people, develop good behavior, and gain knowledge. The
school campus serves as the brain of the learners learning. Therefore the school campus
must be the one that completes and fills the needs of the learners. It should not be
traumatic instead it should be one of something they look forward to each day.

2. How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development? How does
this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

Every level of child and adolescent development has different needs so the campus must
provide and fill those needs. When I say “campus” I mean not just the structural and the
facilities there is but the staffs and teachers inside the campus as well. They must be a-
ware and knowledgeable with the children’s development in any level. I believe all school
aims to provide a structured education and promotes a child’s mental and psychological
growth. Apart from educational learning learners must also learn other necessary and
relevant life skills, good manners, compassion, sympathy and responsibility. And not only
that, part of assisting the learner with their learning is the development of their
personality. Understanding and how they would feel about themselves and others is also
part of their learning that we as future teacher should give focus on.

Your Reflections

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?

If given a chance yes sir. The location of the school would not matter if you really love
teaching. Wherever they put you or no matter how far the school would be, if the
profession you chose is truly your passion the location of school won’t be an issue.
Though the school is farther from the city still I’ll love to share and give my best for
impacting learning to children.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

A school campus conducive to learning is a campus that should be environmental and

child-friendly environment. An environment which can accommodate the larger num-
ber of learners. We know learners in elementary are larger in number compared to
other level considering the population that the Philippines now. An environment that
these little learners can explore and can discover freely. An environment with com-
plete materials and facilities for little learners since these are in elementary they must
put up a small playground where they can develop their motor skills and more. The
teacher and staff must be friendly and welcoming to all learners. And in general the

school must be empowering to learners to make a change their lives and make a
difference in our world by helping these learners to be responsible, independent,
honest, patriotic, a good citizen of this country and a lifelong learner.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

A conducive classroom learning that elementary learners learn best is an environment

that is well-organized, well ventilated, an environment that offers opportunities to
develop learner’s skills, an environment of learning that learners will feel they are safe
and secure, an environment that helps learner achieve their goals, an environment that
they can explore and discover comfortably, an environment that fill the needs of the
learners, creates a good sense of responsibility, and lastly an environment that offers
positive work environment.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

Honestly creating an ideal classroom that is conducive to learning especially to ele-

mentary learners is far from possible. We know what’s the common school and class-
room set up that we have here in Philippines. Some classrooms are accommodating 2
grade level or some teacher are handling multi-grade that’s why some classrooms are
congested which is not conducive to learning. Philippines is still considered a third world
country and financially the government is struggling and that funds allotted to
government departments are limited. The best way that I can do I think is just be
creative and resourceful to at least create an conducive learning classroom to learners.
We might not provide them the best and ideal classroom conducive to learning but at
least try to be resourceful to utilize what available materials that we have to at least
make the classrooms safer and secure for little learners to develop the learners skill
and in acquiring effective learning.

5. Write your additional learning’s and insights here.

My note/view here is not about the child development and of how the learning
environment gives impact to learners and their learning, instead I will share what I
have observed in elementary school/s. We know how children matters to the
community and to the future that’s why all school’s mission and vision are to produce
good responsible learners. All children must feel they matter, again “ALL” children
matters, this includes the children with special needs. We know that some children in
our community are special thus deserves special needs and not all schools can provide
that. These children matters too and they deserve special education from a “well-
trained teacher.” I once volunteered to an organization’s activity of children with down-
syndrome, from then on I realized how this children are less given attention or less
valued by our government. Managing these children with special needs demands
trained or expert skills. Another issue is that some parents are financially unfortunate
and cannot go to nearby school accommodating special children since most of the
schools offering it are located in the proper cities. I hope the government pays atten-
tion them. They might not participate and contribute to the community like a physical
support but they do matter. We can learn so much from them too and they should not
