ANALYZE
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the
students going to school? What are your conclusions?
The environment has a great impact in the learning process of students. Having
facilities that are in good condition can motivate the students to perform well in their
studies and also it can improve the learning experience of the students. In conclusion,
school campuses should be well-constructed or in good condition because the
environment of the students can affect their performance.

How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development? How
does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learners?
If the learning environment of the students is not in good condition, their learning can be
affected. For example, if the classroom is too hot the students will not be able to focus
and listen to their teacher, instead they will be busy looking for something that can
relieve the hot/warm feeling and/or whistling and using a fan. Also, if the place is too
noisy and they can’t hear the teacher while discussing, the possibility is they will not
listen to the teacher and start doing their other personal stuff. And lastly, if one of the
students is sick and the clinic is not able to provide the first aid, then the student will go
home and he/she will miss a class. In conclusion, the learning process and progress of
the students is affected by the environment.

REFLECT
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why
not?
Yes, I would like to teach in the school that I have observed because of the facilities that
are available and its condition. The availability of different facilities can improve the
learning experience of the students and also their situation during class is in good
condition which can affect their learning process. Knowing that the environment has a
great impact on the learning process, progress and experience of the students, the
university that I observed passed to the environment that is conducive to learning.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

The school campus that is conducive to learning is the campus that is complete in
facilities and all of those are in good condition. Also, the people in the campus like
teachers and staff are all friendly. Most importantly are the teachers, they should be
good in teaching and can accomodate all the students with different needs, different
learning style and levels of IQ.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

A classroom that is conducive to learning is the one that can motivate the students to
learn and express themselves. The classroom should be designed based on the topics
or the outline of their topics. Their classroom should be in good condition and well
ventilated. Also, their teachers should be encouraging.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

In the future, I will design my classroom about the topics that they will encounter during
the school year. I will request or solicit money to buy electric fans to make it well-
ventilated. Also, I will encourage and motivate them everyday to study, participate and
express their ideas and themselves.

5. Write your additional learnings and insights here.

Environment has a great impact on the learning process and progress of the students.
We should consider the environment of the learners, however having effective and
efficient teachers is the most important thing to consider.
AN OBSERVATION GUIDE FOR BOARD DISPLAYS
As you look around and examine board displays, use the activity forms provided for you
to document your observations.
1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do
you see?
2. Where are the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can
see them?
3. What are the displays about? What images and colors do you see? How are the
pieces of information arranged?
4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used?
5. Do you notice some errors? (Misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the
like)
6. Are the messages clear and easily understood?
7. You may choose to take a photo of the display board (if allowed).
There are many board displays around the campus and they are displayed in the
school administration office, high school building, elementary area and faculty rooms.
Bulletin boards are easily seen because they are displayed in the hallway. The bulletin
board contains announcements to both teachers, parents and students and celebrations
of the month. I can say that they put an effort on their bulletin board because the
message they want to convey is clear and you cannot find misspelled words and
grammar inconsistencies.

MY BOARD DISPLAY LAY-OUT

ANALYZE
What do you think was the purpose of the board display?
The purpose of the board display is to inform the people, specifically teachers, parents,
and students. This helps them to understand the concept of the idea. Through this
board display, teachers, students and parents will be aware about something happening
in the campus.

Did the board display design reflect the likes/interests of its target audience? Why? Why
not?
Yes, because in order to catch the attention of the audience or the reader their interest
or likes should be displayed. The design should be timely and colorful to get the
attention of the target audience.

Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand? Why?
Why not?
Students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders understand the message easily
because the language used is simple and clear. To make it easier to comprehend by
others, it doesn’t used technical words.

What suggestions can you make?

I suggest that there should be more board displays in the campus. Also, it should be
durable so that it will not be torn or detached easily.

MY PROPOSED BOARD DISPLAY

Theme:
Upgrading To The Traditional

Board Title:
Improve the Bulletin Boards in the Campus

Rationale:
To update the students about the happenings inside the campus and to recognize the
rules and policies in the campus.

Objectives:
To enhance the design of board displays and make it timely and attractive. Also, clear,
well-arranged, durable and secured.

Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement:

The use of glass as a cover to the boards, this will make the board more attractive
and presentable. Also, it protects the information or paper inside from any form of
damage.

Content Resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief
description):
Administrator’s Letters and Memos
These contain new policies of the school and other agenda that the school wants to
tell to the students as well as the teachers.

Announcements, Flyers, Pictures and Clippings:

These could contain a lot of information for the students like schedules of exams,
activities of the school (Intramurals, Foundation Day), recognition of the awardees and
health tips.

Materials for aesthetic enhancement:

Glass cover
Printed text and photos
Calligraphy title
Sequence, glitters, and other decorating materials
Nude and pastel color theme

REFLECT
1. Name at least five skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with
effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.
Organize- a teacher should be organized for him/her to organize all the information and
board displays according to their importance and need.
Media Literate- a teacher should be media literate because it is needed in lay-outing
and printing every information that is needed in board display. Knowing how to operate
technologies is a big help in creating board displays.
Innovative- a teacher should be innovative in designing the board and to make it more
durable and will last. Choosing the right design and color is very important.
Resourceful- a teacher should be resourceful in making board displays, to make it less
costly and he/she may use recycled materials to save money.
Trendy- a teacher should be trendy or updated to the trend so that he/she will know
what theme or things that are timely that could catch the attention of the readers.

2. Which of the following skills you named in # 1 Do you already have? Recall your past
experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
Actually, I possessed most of the skill that I put in number 1. I am organized, resourceful
and media literate. I am still improving the skills that are innovative and trendy. As I look
back to my past experiences in making board displays before, I can say that I always list
all the things that I needed, after that I lay out and print all the important things needed
and after that I will buy and look for the decoration materials for the board display. But
sometimes even when I finish decorating the board it feels like something is missing or
the decoration is too simple, so I will find something that will fill in the missing
something. I practice these skills by applying it to the tasks that I encounter everyday,
not only to my school projects/works but also to my cousins’ projects.

3. Which skills do you need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on how you
can improve on or acquire these skills?
The skills that I need to develop are being innovative and trendy. As the time passes by
there are many latest themes or things that arise and become popular to all. And for me
that is not always updated to the trending theme or topic, sometimes my decoration is
too ‘old fashioned’ or it's not timely already. So, for me to improve on or acquire these
skills, I will be updated and search for something or themes that are timely and popular
that will surely catch the attention of everybody. Also, I will watch videos about
decorating and crafting.

My Personal Illustration of an effective School Environment
On the opposite box present an illustration showing your idea of an effective School
Environment through any of these.
• Descriptive paragraph
The effective school environment is one that provides care, safety, growth and
develops relationships with others. The school environment should have a clinic that will
provide health care service to all students, faculty and staff. It provides first aid to those
people who need it and can accomodate during emergencies. The clinic will be helpful
to all, especially to the students that belong to poor families and families that are
affected by systemic racism. The school environment should have facilities that are in
good condition. Facilities that are safe to use and can cater all the students' needs.
Learning facilities can motivate and engage students into learning. It can help foster the
needs of the students and encourage the students to perform well in studying. The
school environment should develop the growth of the students not only academically but
also socially and behaviorally. Students should be nurtured with the lessons that will
help them improve their academic excellence and also their social and behavioral skills.
The school should have rules and regulations that will help the students to be good at
all times and help them to have self discipline. The school environment should have fair
treatment of the students, faculty and staff, and respect should always be present.
There should be a connection to each in everyone in the school so that the learning
process and progress of the students will become smooth and enjoyable. An effective
school environment should also establish a supportive learning culture wherein each
member of the learning community should have the feeling of connectedness.
LEARNING EPISODE 2
LEARNER DIVERSITY: DEVELOPMENT CHARACTERISTICS, NEEDS AND
INTEREST

1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your own experiences when
you were their age? What similarities or differences do you have with the learners you
observed?
When I was young like the Grade 9 students, I used to be shy like they are now. When
I am called to recite I will make my voice lower so that when I make a mistake only the
teacher and I will know. Also, sometimes I forget to do my homework at home, so I will
go to school early and do my homework in the classroom. When my teacher is starting
to discuss I will sit on the back at the corner and continue doing my homework. And
when I get bored of the lesson my teacher is discussing, my friends and I will start a
new discussion in our seats and laugh all the time.

2. Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive or negative reasons. How did she/he
help or not help you with your needs (physical, emotional, social, and cognitive.)? How
did it affect you?
When I was in Grade 11, we have a very strict and terror teacher, she came from CDD
and she was applying all the rules and regulations in their college to our SHS years. At
first I was so afraid of her because her face is always poker face. But time passed by,
the two of us became comfortable with each other and everytime she gave an
assignment on accounting my paper would become the key answer. Because of that I
was obligated to do all the assignments on time and pass it to her from the moment I
entered the school. That teacher taught me how to be a responsible student and go to
school early.

3. Share your insights here:

As I finished this chapter, I learned that there are many factors that affect or contribute
to the development of a child, it could be physical, mental and social. By that the school
needs to address all these factors so that the students could effectively learn and grow.
A teacher should also assess students so that he/she will know what are the problems
that need to be solved and it will not hinder the development of the learners.

Which is your favorite theory of development? How can this guide you as a future
teacher? Clip some readings about this theory and paste them here.
INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT THEORY OF JEAN PIAGET
Jean Piaget (1896-1980) was a biologist who originally studied mollusks (publishing
twenty scientific papers on them by the time he was 21) but moved into the study of the
development of children's understanding, through observing them and talking and
listening to them while they worked on exercises he set. His view of how children's
minds work and develop has been enormously influential, particularly in educational
theory. His particular insight was the role of maturation (simply growing up) in children's
increasing capacity to understand their world: they cannot undertake certain tasks until
they are psychologically mature enough to do so. His research has spawned a great
deal more, much of which has undermined the detail of his own, but like many other
original investigators, his importance comes from his overall vision.
Jean Piaget proposed that children's thinking does not develop entirely smoothly:
instead, there are certain points at which it "takes off" and moves into completely new
areas and capabilities. He saw these transitions as taking place at about 18 months, 7
years and 11 or 12 years. This has been taken to mean that before these ages children
are not capable (no matter how bright) of understanding things in certain ways, and has
been used as the basis for scheduling the school curriculum. Whether or not this should
be the case is a different matter.
In conclusion, the Intellectual Development Theory of Jean Piaget can help me as a
future teacher. This theory says that every individual has their own level of learning
according to their age. Also, I will take into consideration their own level of
understanding and development of their physical and cognitive aspects because each
age level has a different level of development in terms of their physical and cognitive
aspects. This theory of Jean Piaget will help me in molding the learners. This helps me
in identifying the needs of the learner based on their age and by that I will be able to
provide the things they need according to their age or level.
LEARNING EPISODE 3
OBSERVE, ANALYZE REFLECT
During class:
1.How many interactions are there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact
with one another and with the teacher. Are there groups that interact more with the
teacher than others?
During my observation, I observed that the students have a good relationship with their
co-students. They are very comfortable with each other, especially with their circle of
friends. They are helping each other when it comes to school work and also during
recitation. When it comes to teacher interaction, they will approach their teacher if it is
necessary. They are also active in class especially during recitation but their voice is too
low.

2. Observe the learners seated at the back and the front part of the room. Do they
behave and interact differently?
I observed that the learners seated in front are more active and they listen attentively
than those who are seated at the back. Some learners seated at the back sometimes
gossip while teachers are discussing.

3.Describe the relationship among the learners. Do the learners cooperate with or
compete against each other?
They are very cooperative, especially when it comes to group activity, they are
exchanging ideas. They always tend to help each other during class recitation
especially when someone does not know the answer to the question. They don’t
compete with each other, instead they are helping each other.

4.Who among the students participate actively? Who among them ask for more help?
The students who are seated in front are those students who participate actively in class
discussion. Those students who are seated at the back are the students who ask
questions or clarifications about the instruction. But when it comes to graded recitation,
all of them will actively participate.
5. When a student is called and cannot answer the teacher’s question, do the
classmates try to help him? Or do they raise their hands, so that teacher will call them
instead?
When a student is called by the teacher to answer the question and the student cannot
or doesn't know the answer, the student will call a friend. There are also instances that
when the student was not able to express his/her answer his/her seatmate will help
him/her to express their answer. You cannot really feel the competition inside the
classroom because they are always helping each other.

Outside class:
1. How do the students group themselves outside class? Homogeneously, by age? By
gender? By racial or ethical groups? Or are the students in mixed social groupings? If
so, describe the groupings.
I observed that during their break, the students are in mixed social groupings. They are
fine with whoever in the group. There were times when I also saw them play volleyball
as a class during their free time or lunch break.

2. Describe how the learners interact with each other. What do they talk about?
The students talk about social media like tiktok and they also make tiktok videos
together. Mostly, girls talk about their crush and the boys talk about Mobile Legend,
Valorant and other online games.

OBSERVATION REPORT
Name of the School Observed: DMMMSU-SLUC Laboratory High School
School Address: Agoo, La Union
Date of Visit:
Grade 9 class is easy to handle because I think they are already mature enough to have
self discipline. They also participate in class discussions and they behave when
someone is talking in front of them. Aside from that they are listening, they also raise
their hand if they want to share something interesting or raise some questions. I can say
that they are comfortable with their teacher but the respect is there. When it comes to
group activity, all the students are actively participating. The exchange and sharing of
ideas are always present and that makes their group performance successful. When it
comes to the teacher, when she calls someone to answer and the students don't get the
right answer she will pick a word that is connected to the right answer and she will
rephrase the question in order for students to get the right answer. Also, the teacher
always says thank you to the students who try to answer. Actually, the students have a
good relationship with each other, they are not discriminating anyone from their group,
same as with the teacher.

ANALYZE
1.Identify the persons who play roles in the relationship and interactions in the
classroom. What roles do they play? Is there somebody who appears to be the leader, a
mascot/joker, an attention seeker, little teacher, a doubter/pessimist?
The captain of the class acts as the leader of the class, she is the one who always asks
her classmates to keep quiet. There are many joker in the classroom, they always crack
a joke and make the classroom happy. The jokers can hang out with their classmates
and they can easily put a smile on the face of their companion. There is also a person
who announces all the announcements in the group chat for dissemination. And he is
also the one that is frequently asked by his classmates about heads up/updates.
What makes the learners assume these roles? What factors affect their behavior?
Their peers influence them to assume these roles, they believe that they would be
better to be this way. Reaction of the people that surround them and the meaningful
feedback of their teacher/s satisfies them.

2. Is there anyone you observe who appear left out? Are you students who appear
“different”? Why do they appear different? Are they accepted or rejected by the
others? How is this shown?
There is no student left out or different, they are all unified and bonds like family.
Though there are some students who are very behaved, you can see their
belongingness to the classroom.

What does the teacher do to address issues like this?

The teacher will call the behave students to recite or give their opinion, after that the
teacher will say affirmation to the behave students so that they will be motivated and
encouraged to participate in class or class activity.
3.How do you spell the teacher influenced the class interaction, considering the
individual differences of the students?
The teacher is a good and great impact to the students' learning development.
Influencing the students to support and respect the others, especially their differences,
and being mindful and extra careful to their words is very important. Emotional support
is also important especially in this stage of the students. Accepting and respecting each
other's differences are the things that their teacher is doing and that is also what she
teaches to the students.

4.What strategies does the teacher use to maximize the benefits of diversity in the
classroom? How does the teacher leverage diversity?
The teacher will tell the students if some of them are having different culture, religion or
beliefs so that the others are aware and they will be careful and mindful of the things
they are going to say. The teacher establishes a friendly relationship with the students
and encourages them to communicate with each other openly. The teacher also makes
sure that respect is always there when the differences are being talked about.

REFLECT
As I observed the classroom, I didn't notice any form of diversity in terms of religion or
culture. Maybe because their unity is the one that stands out. During their discussion,
everytime someone gives his/her opinion, ideas or thoughts the teacher will accept
those and appreciate it through affirmation or saying thank you. The other students in
the class will listen every time someone gives his/her opinion, and wait for their turn to
give their opinion. They respect each other's opinion even though they have different
opinions about a certain topic. I can say that the students are comfortable with their
teacher and their classmates as they can openly communicate with each other. Also,
the teacher handled the diversity of the classroom well and made the students unite.
The teacher’s strategies are effective because it makes the students unite and at the
same time connected to each other. The teacher and also the students are open with
each other's differences and ready to accept those and respect them. They are
sensitive with each other and at the same time open-minded.

3.2 REFLECT
1. Recall the time when you were in the elementary or high school level. Recall the high
and low achievers in your class. How did your teacher deal with differences in abilities?
Was your teacher effective?
When I was in elementary, 2nd grade to be exact, many of my classmates could not
read. So, my teacher arranged the seating arrangement, one student that can read will
have a seatmate that can’t read. By that arrangement peer teaching or helping will
occur. And I can say that it was effective because my seatmate improved his reading
skills. Also, when I was in high school, everytime we were having group activities, my
teacher would always be the one to choose the group member in each group. Our
teacher distributes the top students in each group so that all groups will have a good
performance. I can say that the strategies of my former teachers were effective.

2. What dispositions and traits will you need as a future teacher to meet the needs of
the learners?
As a future teacher I should have a lot of strategies and methods in teaching because I
know that there are different students who have different learning styles. I should
consider all my students in every strategy that I am applying in class, knowing that there
are fast and slow learners. I should always encourage and motivate my students to
participate well in class for them to share their ideas and thoughts. Aside from different
methods and strategies, I should be fair at all times. Also, to become a good and
effective teacher, I should be sensitive to my students and to my surroundings. My
methods and strategies in teaching should not cause any discrimination in terms of
different culture, belief and religion of my students.

LEARNING EPISODE 4
LEARNER DIVERSITY: THE COMMUNITY AND HOME ENVIRONMENT

REFLECT
1.Reflect on your own development as a child. What type of parenting did you
experience. How did it affect you?
The type of parenting that I experienced is an Authoritative type of parenting style. My
parents will impose all the rules and they will just remind me of those. Those rules didn't
cause any pressure when I was a child and up until now. Even though it didn't cause
any pressure, I can say that this kind of parenting is effective. Everytime I will make
some decisions, I always look back to the rules that my parents told me and use that as
a guide in decision making that I will be doing. Also, even though I’m already an adult
and have my freedom, I always set my boundaries and limitations in everything that I
do.

2. As a future teacher, how would you establish good home-school collaboration? How
can you work well with the parents? How can you help them? How can they help you?
As a future teacher, I will establish good home-school collaboration by having a
connection with the parents of my students. Being connected with the parents will make
my job easy as I will observe their children and improve them. It will be easier for me to
diagnose a child, address problems and make some decisions if necessary. I will also
give feedback to the parents of my students and meet with them every quarter, as much
as possible, for updates. Also, I am open for consultation when some issues have
arisen with their children. I am happy to help improve and solve problems together with
the parents of the students.
