Introduction
Sound is created when energy is transferred by the particles of a solid, liquid, or gas. The energy of the sound makes the
particles vibrate. These vibrating particles pass on the energy when they collide with other particles. If the particles are
closer together, the energy transfer happens more quickly. The arrangement of molecules is different for the three states of
matter. In a solid, the molecules are tightly packed together in a foxed position. In a liquid, particles are packed together,
bit can slide past each other. In a gas, the particles spread out to fill the volume of a container. The particles in a solid are
the closest together, while the particles in a gas are farthest part.
