I, Geometry
+) Select File-> New-> Ok to create new simulation

+) Expand Geometry -> Right click Part-> New Shape Part-> Block

Corner 1: [0,0,0]

Corner 2: [3.0, 5.0, 3.0]

+) Right click Part-> New Shape Part-> Block

Corner 1: [0.5, 2.0, 0.0]

Corner 2: [2.5, 2.01, 2.0]

Rename Block 2 to Plate

+) Right click Scenes -> New Scene-> Geometry

Click to reduce opacity

A geometry scene is represented like figure 1

1
Figure 1: Geometry scene

+) Expand Block-> Surface-> Right click Block Surface -> Split by Angle-> Angle(degree): 89 -> Click Ok

Rename block surface to Inlet, Outlet, Side 1, Side 2, Top, Bottom according to the figure 2

Figure 2: Name of boundary

+) Expand Plate-> Curve-> Right click Block Curve-> Split by Angle-> Angle(degrees): 89 -> Click Ok

+) Multi select Block curve 9,10,11 and 12 -> Combine-> Rename to Fixed Curved

+) Multi select another Block curves-> Combine

+) Multi select Block and Plate-> Create Mesh Operation-> Boolean-> Subtract-> Target Part: Block ->
Active Perform CAD Boolean and Excute Operation Upon Creation-> Click Ok

+) Rename subtract to Background

+) Expand both Background and Plate-> Multi select Block surface of Plate in each part -> Create
weak in plae contact

2
Then we have a interface contact between Background and Plate, you can check it in Contact

Now, we finish prepare geomerty for the simulation.

II, Boundary condition and Mesh

+) Multi select Backgorund and Plate-> Assign parts to region-> Change options according to below

Then select Apply-> Close

+) Expand Region-> Background-> Set boundary condition accoding to the table

Block.Inlet Velocity Inlet

Block.Outlet Outlet
Block.Side1 Symmetry Plane
Block.Side2 Symmetry Plane
Top Wall
Bottom Wall

+) Expand Geometry-> Part-> Right click Background-> Create Mesh Operation-> Mesh-> Automated
Mesh-> Select: Surface Remesher, Automatic Surface Repair, Trimmed Mesher-> Click Ok

(We choose Trimmed Mesh for background because trimmed mesh is formal mesh so it take a
shorter time to solve fluid equations)

+) Change base size of Automated Mesh to 0.05 m

3
Change Default Growth Rate (in Volume growth rate) to Very Slow

+) Expand Geometry-> Part-> Right click Plate-> Create Mesh Operation-> Mesh-> Automated Mesh-
> Select: Surface Remesher, Automatic Surface Repair, Tetrahedral Mesher-> Click Ok

(We need to choose Tetrahedral Mesher because Plate is solid region and only Tetrahedral Mesher is
supported for solid deformation simulation)

+) Change base size of Automated Mesh 2 to 0.01 m

+) Click to generate mesh

+) Right click -> Scene-> New Scene-> Mesh

Hide Top and Side 1 boundary, we have a mesh scene like figure 3

Figure 3: Mesh scene

III, Physic continua and Solver

+) Create new continua -> Slect model according to below

4
+) Rename to Air

+) Create another continua -> Select models according to below

+) Rename to Solid

+) Expand Solid-> Material Laws Models -> Material Laws-> Defaults Material Law-> Model-> Select
Models-> Select: Linear Elasticity and Isotropic Elasticity-> Close

+) Expand Region -> Change Physics Continuum of Background to Air -> -> Change Physics Continuum
of Plate to Solid

+) Expand Background-> Boundaries-> Block.Inlet-> Physic value-> Velocity Magnitude-> 10m/s

+) Right click Plate-> Create new Segment-> Curve Segment

5
+) Expand Segment-> Curve Segment 1-> Change Type to Constrain-> Physic condition-> Solid Stress
Constrain-> Change Method to Fixed

The purpose of the step is creating a curve segment to fixing Plate on Ground

Next, we move to important step: Create motion and Fluid-Solid Interface

+) Expand Tools-> Motion-> New-> Morphing

+) Expand Tools-> Motion-> New-> Solid Displacement

+) Expand Background region-> Physic value -> Motion specificartion: Morphing

+) Exapand boundary of Background-> Multi select Inlet and Outlet-> Edit-> Morpher specification:
Contraint-> Morpher Contraint Specification-> Fixed Boundary Plane

Purpose of the step is fixing Inlet and Outlet boundary , avoid effect of fluid flow to the boundaries

+) Expand Plate boundary (in Background) -> Physic Condition-> Change Morpher Specification:
Displacement-> Change Morpher Displacement Specification: Total

+) Expand Plate region-> Physic values-> Motion Specification-> Motion: Solid Displacement

+) Expand Interface-> Backgorund/Plate-> Change Type to Mapped Contact Interface

Mapped Contact Interface is a type of interface that allow transform data between to region whose
physics continua are different. Beside that Mapped Contact Interface also alllow transform
displacement of solid region to fluid region.

+) Expand Solver-> Implicit Unsteady Time-> Timestep to 0.01

+) Mesh Morpher -> Active Morph from Zero, Morph At Initialization, Morph at Inner Iterations
according to below

6
+) Stopping Criteria-> Deactive Displacement Criterion, Force Criterion, Maximum Step

Change Maximum Physical Time to 5s

IV, Visualizing results

+) Derived Part-> New Part-> Section-> Plane

Origin: 1.5,2.5,1.5

Normal: 1,0,0

-> Apply

+) Scene-> New Scene-> Scalar

Part: Background-> Top, Bottom, Plate

Derived Part: Plane Section

Change Field Function to Absolute Pressure

+) Scene-> New Scene-> Vector

Part: Derived Part: Plane Section

Change Field Function to Velocity

+) Select Scene/Plot of Scalr Scenes 1-> Update -> Active Save to File-> Output Directory: demo->
Base Filename: pressrure

+) Select Scene/Plot of Mesh Scenes 1-> Update -> Active Save to File-> Output Directory: demo->
Base Filename: mesh

Select Plane Section for Part of Mesh Scene
