expressions. Throughout this discussion you are

Modal Verbs – shows possibility, ability, or


necessity. These verbs are auxiliary or helping verbs
which modify or change the meaning of the main
verbs. You use modal verbs in giving advice or
suggestions, making requests, or giving predictions
and prohibitions.

Modal Verbs used alongside main verb to change its


meaning slightly. Because they’re auxiliary verbs,
they can’t necessarily be used on their own.

“The Modal Verbs is really confusing at first, so let’s
D. Abstraction break down what exactly what modal verbs is.
Modal Verb is a helping verb that shows possibility,
permission, ability, advice, obligation in a sentence,
so basically, we can see it before the main verb.
Example: You must take your vitamins regularly so
that you don’t easily get sick. So here, must is the
modal verb and take is the main verb, we can (The students listening

or could if the subject is showing the ability to do
something. If you want to ask permission to do
something, start your question with can, may,
or could. If you’re requesting something you can use
will, would, can, or could.

Let’s play “Modal Verb Hunting”. Find any book in your house and write the modal
verbs that you find in the book, you can write it in 1 whole paper and be prepared
to share it with the class.
