In this module you will perform hip-hop and street dances. You will also
discover how these dances can revitalize your body and mind. It aims to target the
following learning competencies:
At the end of this module, you will consider dancing to be one of your
recreational activities, combining it with healthy eating habits to sustain lifelong
fitness.

What’s In
In the previous quarter, lessons about fitness and movement activities were
tackled. Now to know how much knowledge you have gained in that lesson; I want

Dance is a recreational activity that can develop our physical, mental, social,
and emotional health. It can surely sustain our fitness, but it should be coupled
with proper eating habits and weight management for us to live a healthy life.
What’s New?
Welcome to the first part of your lesson in Street and Hip-Hop Dances. In
this phase, various activities and challenges will enable you to review and reveal
your knowledge in the previous and upcoming lessons. This part will surely
stimulate your excitement to perform street and hip-hop dances as you get to
understand them deeply. Remember that you must accomplish every activity so
that you will have excellent performance in the next stages. Are you excited? You

sustain fitness and wellness and to discover based on your facial expression the
activities that you like and do not like doing.

This activity aims to let you have a better view of what would happen if a
person were not physically active. This allows you also to realize the risk factors of
lifestyle diseases.
On the other hand, during weekends, each family goes to church and watches
movies together. They maintain their strong family bonds. Values such as respect to
elders and obedience are also preserved in this community.

Points to remember
Street dance refers to dance styles that have evolved outside dance
studios. It is performed in streets, dance parties, parks, school yards, or in any
available space. A street dance is a vernacular dance in urban context.
Vernacular dances are improvisational and social in nature, encouraging
interaction and contact with spectators and other dancers.
A full street dance is a collection of various similar dance moves and styles
put together into one practice and regarded as the same dance.
Hip-hop is a cultural movement best known for its impact on music in the
form of the musical genre of the same name. It originated in the Bronx, New York
City, during the 1970s, mostly among African Americans and some influence of
Hip-hop dance, on the other hand, refers to street dance styles primarily
performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Hip-
hop music incorporates a number of iconic elements, mostly notably DJ-ing and
rapping, along with things like beat boxing, sampling, and juggling beats on
turntables.

Popping
Popping was popularized by Samuel Boogaloo Sam Solomon and his crew
the Electric Boogaloos. It is based on the technique of quickly contracting and
relaxing muscles to cause a jerk in a dancer’s body. Popping forces parts of your
body outwards, similar to explosions within parts of your body.

Congratulations for successfully finishing the first stage! Now in this part,
you will assess yourself on how prepared you are for the next moderately
vigorous activity. Remember that you need to take these assessments honestly
to prevent harm.
This short activity assesses your own level of participation and readiness in
physical activity.
Instruction: Put a check (/) on how often you do the following activities.
To use the pyramid as a guide is a simple matter. The bottom of both pyramids is the
day-to-day activities and should be done as often as possible. These are considered
light physical activities. Recreational and aerobic activities dominate the second level.
The recommendation is that one should do these activities 3-5 times a week. The third
level is leisure and exercise for strength and flexibility. These should be done 2-3 times
a week. The top tier should be done minimally at best. Energy expenditure through
physical activity helps in controlling weight together with a sound diet.

and left alternately (moving forward or backward) for 10 minutes to a 24-time
