AfGT Preparation Planner

Suggested plan for successful completion of the AfGT

• Review your knowledge and understanding of
the relevant Australian Professional Standards for
Teachers (APST) at Graduate Level -

• Access and read the AfGT Information Booklet
• Consult the AfGT Workbook (ensure you have the latest
version). On pp. 25-27 of the workbook, you will see a
MATRIX of the APST for Graduate Teachers showing
which of the standards is assessed in which Element of the
AfGT.

• Complete Element 4 of the AfGT. Completion of Element 4
will occur BEFORE you commence your internship
• Preparation for AfGT Element 2: Consider the sequence of
5-8 lessons you have documented in your Element 1 plan.
Select TWO lessons to be observed by your mentor
teacher. Your mentor must provide written feedback on
delivery of the TWO lessons, specifically on a short
segment of 8-10 minutes from each of the two lessons.
This is known as a Key Pedagogical Segment or KPS.
• Familiarise yourself and your mentor with the
requirements to analyse two KPSs taken from your lesson
series. Discuss this with your mentor so he/she is aware of
when this will occur.

• Finalise Element 1 of AfGT
1-2 • Preparation for AfGT Element 2: Consider the sequence of
5-8 lessons planned and documented in Element 1 and
the TWO lessons to be delivered and observed by your
mentor teacher.
• Element 2 Requirement: Plan, teach and evaluate Lesson 1
and KPS 1 of the TWO chosen lessons. Consider APST
Standards 1.2; 3.1; 3.3; 3.5; 3.6; 4.2; 4.4; 6.3 for this task.
You might like to consider the use of audio recordings to
support your post-lesson reflections.
• Ensure your mentor has a copy of the template on which
to record observations of the two KPSs. The use of this
template is mandatory. You can find the mentor teacher
KPS feedback template in the Assessment 1 Folder.
• Preparation for Element 3: Refer to the 5-8 sequence of
lessons planned in Element 1 in the AfGT Workbook.
Consider a summative assessment task for students.
