1ST Year PRELIM OSPE/OSCE Guidelines 2023

1. All students (NEUROSCIENCE, PHYSIOLOGY 2, KINESIOLOGY, FOUNDATIONS OF PT PRACTICES & PSYCHOLOGY) should be in the SALC
(4th floor) at least 45 minutes before the start of OSCE on April 17, 2023.

2. The following are the topics that will be covered for this term’s OSPE:

OSPE
A. Neuroscience
I. Organization of the Nervous System, CNS, and PNS
II. Neurons, Nerve Fibers, and Peripheral Innervation
III. Spinal Cord
IV. Brainstem

B. Physiology 2
I. Organization of the Nervous System, Basic Functions of Synapses, “Transmitter Substances”
II. Sensory Receptors
III. Somatic Sensation (Pain, headache & Thermal Sensations)
IV. Somatic Sensations (Tactile & position sense)

C. Psychology
I. Behavioral Theories

OSCE
A. Kinesiology
I. Principles of the Lever System in Exercise Prescription
a. Upper Extremity Muscles
b. Lower Extremity Muscles
c. Muscles of the Head and Neck

B. Foundations of PT Practices
I. Patient Interview Skills

2. Wear KINES SUIT and PPE as your uniform. Not wearing proper uniform, NO EXAM.
3. No special practical exam shall be given in case you will not be able to take the exam because of being absent or late.

Before OSPE:
4. PT 1A & PT 1B will be divided into 11 batches and each batch has 4 students to fill in the stations.
5. ALL BAGS, PERSONAL BELONGINGS & GADGETS (laptop, cellphones, tablet) WILL BE PLACED INSIDE THE STOCKROOM AT FROM
8:00-8:30 AM.
6. THE STOCKROOM WILL BE LOCKED DURING THE ENTIRE EXAMINATION.
7. After placing all bags and personal belongings in the stockroom, all students will then stay in the waiting area.
8. Students will only sit in your designated area.
9. Students can only bring 1 BLACK PEN and 1 clear bottled water in the waiting area

During the OSPE
1. There will be a simultaneous examination for OSPE AND OSCE in different rooms.
2. The set-up for OSPE will be moving exam.

OSPE SET-UP:

STATION 1: NEUROSCIENCE- 7 minutes

STATION 2: PSYCHOLOGY (Part 1)- 3 minutes
STATION 3: PHYSIOLOGY 2 – 7 minutes
STATION 4: PSYCHOLOGY (Part 2)- 3 minutes

TOTAL- 20 MINUTES

OSPE:

MR. ENGSTROM: NEUROSCIENCE & PHYSIOLOGY 2 - REST STATIONS

OSCE SET-UP:

Foundations of PT Practices (5-minute execution)

- Students must demonstrate good rapport and correct execution of communication skills while performing an interview or
doing history taking.
- Students must also simulate a patient based on the following disability:
a. Visual Impairment
b. Hearing Impairment
c. Pt. with mental disability
d. Pt. with Down Syndrome
e. Pt. with Autism Spectrum Disorder
f. Pt. with speech problem
g. Pt. with intellectual disability
h. Pt. with Physical disability

KINESIOLOGY (5-minute execution)
- Students are to prescribe and perform strengthening exercises:
o One (1) upper extremity muscle
o One (1) lower extremity muscle or core muscles
- Students will execute the initial dose of exercise and will proceed up to two progressions.

3. Students will go to their designated station/panel.

4. 40 MINUTES PER BATCH will be allotted for the entire examination.
(OSPE -20 minutes; OSCE - 20 minutes).
5. Students are not allowed to talk or share information during the thinking and examination period.
6. The flow of OSPE & OSCE will be:
THINKING TIME (20 minutes) → OSPE (20 Minutes) → OSCE (20 minutes)
7. The patients of the 1st batch will be the panelists. After they finish the exam, they will be the patient of the succeeding batch.
8. CHEATING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED!
9. If a student got caught in the act of cheating or did not adhere to OSCE/OSPE guidelines, he/she must be subjected to disciplinary
actions. If proven guilty then the exam will be deemed invalid and forfeited.

After OSPE/OSCE
9. After the students complete the OSPE & OSCE they need to stay in the library and wait until all the students finish the entire
examination.
10. The facilitators will open the stockroom once all students are done with their entire AM OSPE/OSCE or PM OSPE/OSCE.
11. AM Batches of examiners must leave the FL building after the morning OSPE and OSCE. They are not allowed to talk to the remaining
examiners.
12. PM Batches of examiners will stay and are not allowed to leave the 4 th floor FL building during lunch break. They are not allowed to
talk to the AM batches of examiners.
13 All students are required to fill in the OSPE & OSCE evaluation form after the examination.
