INT – CAPULET’S MANSION, BALLROOM – DAY (SCENE 1 – MASQUERADE PARTY)
PREPARATION FOR THE PARTY
Inside the scenic Italianate wonder of Florentine architecture of
the Capulet Mansion, the ballroom is speckled with workers and
servants hastily preparing for tonight’s celebration, left and right
they shuffle with Lady Capulet angrily ordering everyone.
(Lady Capulet walks to the nurse and tells her to go to the market)
Lady Capulet: Go to the market and buy more decorations for the
ball. We need everything to be perfect.
Nurse: Yes, madame.
(Nurse gets out of the mansion and heads to market)
Vendor: Good day, madame!
Nurse: Good day to as well.
Vendor: How may I be of service to you today?
Nurse: I am in need of decorations.
Vendor: Oh, and what will be the occasion? (curiously)
Nurse: There’ll be a ball at the Capulet mansion tonight. A
masquerade ball. (Sarcastically flaunting)
Vendor: Oh, very well.
Coincidentally, Benvolio was at the same store the nurse went to and
was eavesdropping on the vendor and the nurse’s conversation, thus
hearing about the celebration tonight at the Capulet mansion.
Nurse: Thank you!
(Nurse went on her way back to the mansion)
Benvolio then rushes out of the store to tell Romeo about what he
has heard.
Benvolio: Romeo! Bring out your fanciest clothes. We’re going to a
party tonight.
Romeo: What? A party?
Benvolio: A masquerade ball. (Imitates the nurse)
Romeo: I’m afraid I…
Benvolio: No, you’re coming with. There’ll be a lot of beautiful
women there, you know.
Romeo: All right, fine.
(Benvolio raises his fist in success)
Romeo: Where is it?
Benvolio: The Capulet mansion and…
(Conversation begins to fade as the music grows louder)
INT – CAPULET’S MANSION, BALLROOM - NIGHT (SCENE 2 – MASQUERADE
PARTY)
Then we’d see the mansion littered with horse-drawn carriages as
more or their guests arrived,
INTO THE MANSION,
Elegant contorted images of costumed guests mingle the ballroom as
the music plays, they eat and dine awaiting the grand presence of
the Capulet family.
Nothing much really has happened yet... Until
The music became a FLOURISH OF TRUMPETS as the servants open the
elevator doors to the CAPULET FAMILY step out and begins a
procession through their subjects. All eyes turn to the family as
they made their descent down, all were present except... Juliet
INT – MONTAGUE DOMINION – NIGHT (SCENE 2 – MASQUERADE PARTY)
ROMEO’s P.O.V: From afar, ROMEO is struck with confusion by the
masses of people gathering inside the Capulet Mansion followed by
lights illuminating the inky skies has led him to investigate out of
curiosity, so in a moment without hesitation, he daunts a
mischievous grin and equips a mask along Benlovio to disguise
themselves amongst the invited guests.
INT – CAPULET’S MANSION, BALLROOM - NIGHT (SCENE 3 – MASQUERADE
PARTY)
Once inside he was greeted with the seemingly gothic portrayal of
religious iconography and divine Florentine architecture
overshadowed by a mesh of bright and festive colors all around the
home, and then he later sees guests feasting and dancing as music
happily plays with the Capulets. Intrigued, he then dove in further,
CUT TO: We see the Capulet family dine as they spectate the guests,
Tybalt and Lady Capulet kept a keen eye as the rest party.
CUT TO: Romeo moves through the crowd. For a moment the crush clears
and he spies an angle from across the dance floor,
(Romeo whispers to himself,)
Romeo: “Did my heart love till now”
Romeo motivated, would circumnavigate the dance floor in an attempt
to reach the girl despite the dangers that lay ahead. But before he
could get to the girl he was soon put to a halt once seeing Court
Paris in front of Juliet,
(Paris daunts a smile as he reaches his hand out to Juliet,)
Court Paris: “Will you now deny to dance?”
(Juliet looks to Paris, unfazed and uninterested, searches for a
reason to decline.)
Juliet: “Uhm, well, you see- “
Suddenly the Nurse appears, approaches Juliet and corrals the two
onto the dance floor,
(The Nurse then whispers to Juliet, as all she could do was sigh)
Nurse: “A man, young lady, such a man.”
CUT TO: Paris and Juliet slow dancing,
Juliet’s eyes began to wander off into the distance, till she
finally spots Romeo in the crowd. Their eyes connect as if they’re
under a bewitching spell, but then her attention quickly reverts
back to Paris who, oblivious, returns his most devastating smile.
CUT TO: Juliet, unable to look away from the boy, stares over Paris’
shoulder.
CUT TO: Romeo, ignoring the danger, continues to trudge further to
the angle.
Suddenly, with the music spiraling its final notes, as the song
concludes, the crowd breaks into wild applause.
Juliet then loses track of the mystery boy as the space floods with
guests cheering,
Then, as the applause sets, Juliet gazes blankly at the dance floor.
Juliet, eagerly wanting to find the boy, blurts out an obscure
reason to flee from Count Paris.
Juliet: “If you’ll excuse me, I’ve forgotten to do something.”
(Juliet moves away from the crowd.)
In the dark, a hand shot out from the blue, it clasped hers. Juliet
barely dares to breathe as she glances furtively at Count Paris whom
he turned away from Juliet to face the crowd, Juliet then slowly
turns towards the hand; and there through the break from the wall of
guests, she can see an eye, cheek, and the lips of the mystery boy
facing hers.
Then as the song reprises, Romeo gently pulls Juliet behind the
guests until it was just the two of them,
Concealed from the party by the cover of darkness, hands still
clasped, they began to waltz slowly.
CUT TO: Tybalt peers across the ballroom, to the guests then his
eyes stray to Juliet, subsequently, dances with a man he knew none
of. But then suddenly, his eyes quickly widened with anger as he
made realization that the boy who was with Juliet was a Montague,
then, in a fit of rage he stood up to confront the boy but was
halted by LADY CAPULET and slammed a hand onto his chest.
Tybalt: “To strike him dead I hold it not a sin-”
Lady Capulet: “What angers you so?”
Tybalt: “Aunt, the man that is with Juliet is a Montague.”
(Lady Capulet removes her mask and peers across the ballroom.)
Lady Capulet: “Young Romeo, is it?”
Tybalt: “It’s him, that villain Romeo.”
(Followed by a guttural sigh with a stern expression on her face,
she held him by his arm and replied back,)
Lady Capulet: “Be calm, let him alone. To harm a Montague under this
roof means riot, I would not for the wealth of all this town that
any harm would beset him in my house.”
Tybalt could not believe it,
Tybalt: “I’m not endured” he hissed
Lady Capulet explodes with anger,
Lady Capulet: “He SHALL be endured!” she yelled as she held onto his
collar and violently shoved him back down to his seat,
Lady Capulet: “YOU will not cause a mutiny among MY guests! (she'd
slap him viscously after) Leave him be! What, foolish boy! I say he
shall!” she shouted.
(Tybalt looks with disbelief whilst choking back tears of rage)
(CON'T)

Romeo: "If I may have your hand. (Takes Juleit’s hand) This holy
shrine, the gentle sin is this:

(Romeo kisses Juliet’s hand.), my unyielding devotion for you, my

angel."
(Romeo pulls back.)
Romeo: “O, dear saint, let lips do what hands do.”
(Romeo moves his lips towards Juliet's. She stops him,)
Juliet: "Good lord, is this what courtship is like with a Montague?"
Romeo: "Forgive me, maiden. Though if I may, could I ask for your
name?"
Juliet: "If I were to reveal my origins, it would be the end of us"
Romeo: "How could you think of such?"
Juliet: "Well, if you were to know that I am a—"
Suddenly a harsh sound falls across the entwined couple. The two
then broke apart as Juliet was dragged away from Romeo by the Nurse,
and Romeo was dragged away by his cousin Benvolio.
Nurse to Juliet: "Madam, your mother craves a word with you"
Benlovio to Romeo: "Might not be the best time to be here, cousin.
Let us go."
The nurse then takes firm control of Juliet’s charge and redirects
her towards a furious Lady Capulet and a victorious Tybalt as
Benvolio maneuvers the shell-shocked Romeo across the room as he
dawns on a realization;
Romeo: "That girl, is a Capulet?" (under his breath)
Benlovio: "Unfortunately, yes"
Romeo: "And why was it 'unfortunate'?"
Benlovio: "Are you not aware of our family's scuffle with theirs!?
She was the only daughter of our sworn enemy, dear coz."
Romeo: "I am aware."
Romeo then would look back distraught as he and Benlovio approached
the walkway that led outside.
