Standard 5 Artifacts

The first artifact is a Unit Study I conducted of Michael Sweeney’s “Imperium.” I did this to
learn more about the context of the piece I would be teaching/conducting. Through this Unity
Study, you will see my understanding and findings related to the composition and performance
of this piece. This artifact reflects my ability to analyze music and evaluate music that is
performed in the classroom.

The second artifact is a Full-Year Band Curriculum I designed. When designing this curriculum,
I kept student success and challenges in mind. Through this Full-Year Curriculum, you will see
program goals, course objectives, descriptions, song selections, and assessments. This artifact
reflects my ability to select appropriate and varied repertoire for my students.

The third artifact is a video of myself leading a small group of middle school trumpet players.
We were working on select numbers of the method book and a few scales. Through this video,
you will see how the students work with me to help meet their needs and fix any reoccurring
problems. This artifact demonstrates my ability to facilitate student evaluation and work with
small chamber groups.
