Western Hemisphere Points Project


Here is your final culminating project of our Geography Unit. You will choose what you want for a
grade. You will score points by completing projects in each category. You MUST complete each
task per topic. It must be done well in order to receive all the points listed. You may propose a
project or assessment for a category. Upon approval of your proposal, we will discuss the point
value, and then you may attempt the project or assessment.

A bibliography (works cited page) must be included with each researched assignment.

At least one assignment is due on each of the following dates: 03/16, 03/20, 03/23, 03/27,
03/30, 04/03, 04/07, 04/10. These are the official dates. Plan to complete one project for
each date.

Geography - DUE 03/16


6 pts: Create a detailed colored map based on your location. This includes the counties, at least 5
cities, 5 major lakes and landforms in your chosen location. Also include the bordering countries,
states (if choosing US location), and water features.

Famous Person - DUE 03/20 *(Provide separate Graphic Organizer)


6 pts: Choose a famous person from your location and gather a paragraph of information (12 pt font,
Times New Roman, double spaced). This needs to include date of birth, places they lived (born in,
lived in, died in), what they contributed to the location, if they are dead then add when they died.

Industry - DUE 03/23 *(Make sure they know what an Industry is)
3 pts: Pick three industries in your location and write a sentence and/or paragraph (3 - 4 sentences)
for each explaining how it impacts the economy.

Weather/Climate - DUE 03/27*(Provide separate Graphic Organizer)


6 pts: Investigate the weather of your country/state in the past 3 years. Create a chart or graph that
shows the increase/decrease in precipitation, temperature, wind, and any major storms. If you
choose a location that has a wildfire rate, then also add that to the graph.

Government - DUE 03/30*(Provide separate Graphic Organizer)


3 pts: Investigate your location's government system and create a chart that shows the different
branches of government and the individuals that occupy the positions.

History - DUE 04/03


3 pts: Select a native tribe from your location. Research the tribe and create a presentation about
how they lived and what their lives are like today.

Cultural - DUE 04/07


3 pts: Find a popular recipe native to your location and share it with the class. Explain how it
became native to it and any history behind it. Create a recipe page for your food. Reminder, student
or students can do this activity together in Mrs. Greenlaw’s kitchen area.

Famous Architecture - DUE 04/10*(Provide separate Graphic Organizer)


3 pts: Research a famous building or structure of your country/state. Recreate or draw it and give
information on where it is, how it became famous, and interesting details about it (Example: La
Mano de Punta del Este in Uruguay).

Make a virtual field trip (like the one Ms. Michal did with you) on your location. Include where your location is, give some
information about your location, climate, plant growth, if any of the vegetation allows for economic importance, different
types of animals that live there (birds, reptiles, mammals, etc.), if there are indigenous people, and any type of factors that
can hurt the location (example: deforestation).
