TITLE: THE WAYS TO MAINTAIN MENTAL WELL-BEING DURING COVID-19

PANDEMIC

According to Cennimo, Bergman, and Olsen (2021), COVID-19 can be referred to as a

disease induced by a new coronavirus currently known as severe acute respiratory syndrome

coronavirus 2, which was first discovered in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. With the

outbreak of the COVID-19, many individuals are experiencing various levels of stress in life,

which leads them to have low levels of mental well-being. Mental well-being refers to the ways

people react and manage their own emotions in daily life, such as depression, fear, or upset

(Peterson, 2018). Thus, this essay will emphasize the ways for maintaining mental well-being

during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first way for maintaining mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic is by

making connections with other individuals. When they maintain contact with others around

them during the COVID-19 pandemic, they will feel understood and not isolated, which will

aid individuals in maintaining their mental well-being. Individuals can interact with other

individuals via social media platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, the

connections they form with other individuals allow them to share their experiences and feelings

with others via Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

Furthermore, the way to maintain mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic

is having a good night’s sleep. Individuals who get high-quality sleep are expected to have a

high degree of mental well-being because people with a consistent circadian rhythm are less

likely to be irritated and stressed out. A good night's sleep is essential for mental processing,
hormone homeostasis, and metabolism, all of which assist people in recharging their mental

well-being for the day. Individuals can get a good night's during the COVID-19 pandemic by

exercising throughout the day, eating a healthy diet, and listening to soft music before bed.

Moreover, the way to maintain mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic is

doing things that we enjoy. When individuals are doing activities they enjoy during the

COVID-19 pandemic, they will focus on their hobbies, which can boost their moods an d keep

them from feeling bothered or upset. Individuals can learn to express their emotions in new

ways while doing things they enjoy. For example, individuals maintain mental well-being

during the COVID-19 pandemic by engaging in an old hobby or exploring a new one, such as

painting, cooking, and jogging.

Besides, the way for maintaining mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic is

doing exercise regularly. When individuals exercise, their bodies generate dopamine, which is

a neurotransmitter that plays a role in influencing emotional reactions (Cadman, 2018). The

dopamine produced in the body will relax people and minimize their feelings of despair and

anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, individuals can exercise three to four

times every week to maintain their mental well-being.

In conclusion, there are several ways to maintain mental well-being during the COVID-

19 pandemic. Individuals with a high level of mental well-being are less likely to experience

severe mental health problems. As a result, individuals are encouraged to apply these ways in

their daily lives to maintain their life quality during the COVID-19 pandemic.
