218—Reflection on lesson plan

An important part of teaching is reflecting on your lessons. After we record your lesson, we will
share it with you. Please watch the video and then complete this reflection. It is due ONE WEEK
after you teach your lesson.

1. List 3 things you did well in your lesson.

• I did an excellent job listening and responding to the students.
• The video I picked was perfect for the topic
• I think my closer was a terrific way to wrap up the lesson.

2. List 3 things you need to improve on in your lesson.

• The book I picked was not the best.
• There was some awkward silence.
• The last check for understanding was messed up because I forgot that I had one more.

3. For each improvement area, please explain what you would do differently.
• I would have selected another book that listed more types of weather
• I would have filled the silence better and had practiced my transitions more
• I would not have added an extra check for understanding after the worksheets

Did you feel prepared for your lesson? Why or why not?
I felt very prepared for my lesson because I had Mrs. B look over my presentation beforehand
and she said it looked great, so I felt confident. I also practiced several times.
How did you feel about the classroom climate during your lesson?
The students were very engaged during my lesson. They paid attention to the instructions and
completed their work with very little extra talking. They also enjoyed the lesson and were
engaged in discussions.
Did you have to differentiate for any of your students? Please explain.
There was one student who worked a little bit slower than the others, but that happens often
with this student, so I just talked about other students’ work while waiting for him to finish.
Was there anything that surprised you about how your students reacted to your teaching or
how they behaved during your lesson?

I know that these students are great listeners, and they were on their best behavior during my
lesson. However, I was surprised that there was little blurting out during the book.

For future lessons, what will you change about the way you planned or presented your lessons?

For future lessons, I would change my awkwardness during the transitions. I would also most
likely change my anticipatory set.

This reflection is worth 25 points.
