Check for After we have finished playing the video of the book, “The
understanding
Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas,” we will ask the students
to give a thumbs up if they understood the story or a thumbs
down if they did not. If there is a student with a thumbs down,
see if they have any questions regarding the book to help them
better understand. After the thumbs up thumbs down portion,
we will go around the room and discuss what their favorite acts
of kindness were in the story.
Guided practice We will pass out a notecard and pencil to each student, the
notecard will have “I will be kind this Christmas by...” written
on it. The students will model kindness by writing down
something nice they are going to do for a loved one this
Christmas season. Students will share these with one another
and get more ideas for modelling kindness and demonstrating
it. We will then pass out a gingerbread man to each of them
individually. Once they each have one, they will be set loose to
decorate them.
Closure “Alright take just one moment and stop what you’re doing and
look up at the front” Give them time to stop. “What acts of
kindness will you be doing this Christmas? Why did you choose
that act of kindness? Can you do this at times other than
Christmas?” Give each of them time to share out after each
question. “You did a really great job today friends! You can get
back to your decorating now.” Let them continue to work after
closure is done.

• This lesson plan should be filled out completely and with great detail. It
should be turned in BEFORE you teach the lesson.
• Make sure that your independent practice is connected to your objective.
• You should try to use technology somewhere in your lesson. I would highly
recommend to use it in “the hook” on in the “input”
• Try to use a strategy for the check for understanding.
• Use citations if needed!
• Read through the lesson plan rubric so you know exactly what my
expectations are.
This lesson plan is worth 35 points.
