Artifact
Title of Artifact: Whole Class lesson
How did completing this assignment
• help you to grow in your understanding of application of content. (How did you use the
skills you learned in EDU218 to teach your lesson?)
o I used the Madeline Hunt lesson plan format, which was given to me, to help me
construct my lesson plan and as an outline to instruct. I also used my skills from
the group lesson assignment from semester one to help me be confident in my
ability to create and teach a lesson. Another skill from this class that I used to
teach my lesson was using my knowledge of the Iowa Core that was taught to me
that I then used to teach to the students.
• help you to learn how to use various methods of successful delivery of instruction (what
different strategies did you use when teaching this lesson?)
o While teaching the lesson I used an overall positive method of delivery to ensure
that my students felt that I was excited about the material I was teaching them. I
also used a video to help my students learn about weather patterns. This is a
strategy of instruction used by my EDU teacher, which I find to be effective on
me in her classroom. I also used discussions in my lesson which worked well to
help the students learn from their classmates and got them thinking about the
material.
• Help you to learn about communication skills and discipline knowledge? (The discipline
here is the field of education?)
o I learn well when I am conducting a task. Therefore, teaching a live lesson to a
group of real students helped me gain further insight into what it is really like to
be a teacher. I also learned how important it is to always communicate with
students, especially younger ones, in a positive manner. When you instruct in
another way, students do not feel as excited. Additionally, I know now how
important it is to utilize various strategies when teaching to maintain student
engagement.

Reflection:
(Explain what you learned from teaching a lesson to the whole class?)
By teaching a lesson to a whole class, I was able to gain a small amount of experience as a real
teacher. Stepping into the shoes of a lead classroom teacher and teaching a lesson to an entire
class was very insightful. I feel like I am even more confident in my choice to become a teacher.
I thoroughly enjoyed teaching my lesson, and I grew more confidence in my ability to teach as
well. As I said before, I learn well when I am doing the task rather than watching the task be
done. Really doing the work of a lead classroom teacher helped me learn so much about what it
will be like when I become one.
