Artifact
Title of Artifact: Whole Class lesson
How did completing this assignment
● help you to grow in your understanding of application of content. (How did you
use the skills you learned in EDU218 to teach your lesson?)
I learned how important it is to make sure the lesson you are teaching is
relevant to the students. It helps keep them interested and engaged, and also
helps create a better classroom environment. I also learned how important the
delivery of the lesson is. If you aren’t prepared or have a full understanding of
what you are teaching that day, then the lesson will not go across to the
students how you would like it to. It's important to come prepared and have a
plan for the delivery and throughout the entire lesson.
● help you to learn how to use various methods of successful delivery of
instruction (what different strategies did you use when teaching this lesson?)
I learned a lot about teaching strategies from completing and teaching this
lesson. I had to figure out which one would work best for me, the students, and
the lesson I was teaching. The strategy I used to teach this lesson was to include
moments. I know that having them stay in one place for the whole lesson
wouldn’t work, so having them move halfway through kept them engaged and
gave them some time to release their energy.
● Help you to learn about communication skills and discipline knowledge? (the
discipline here is the field of education)
This helped me learn a lot about communication skills, specifically those in relation to a
classroom environment. It’s important that the kids understand your directions and
are comfortable with the tasks at hand in order for them to do their best work. It also
helped me realize just how prepared teachers are everyday to make sure their students
have a fun and engaging lesson, but also to make it different and understandable every
single day.

Reflection:
(Explain what you learned from teaching a lesson to the whole class?)
I learned that classroom discipline and management is a difficult concept to grasp. The
class is full of all kinds of kids, and I as the teacher had to adapt and fit their style in
order to remain in control. I also learned that having differentiated instruction can
help a lot of students out. Having the options I had for the students writing portion of
my lesson was helpful and even necessary to some kids. It gave them the opportunity to
do what they felt comfortable with, while still learning. I also learned that sometimes in
a classroom, especially of a larger size, you have to allow yourself extra time for things
to get done. Younger students especially might have questions or even need a little
break throughout. This is something that I had to do throughout my lesson. The kids
had many questions about the book and the assignment I had given them, and as the
teacher it was my job to answer those questions. Overall, I learned a lot about
functioning in the classroom and creating a good learning environment for all the
students to thrive in.
