The design consultant proposal: Replace the entire

existing steel truss and column of VIT with the new


steel structure.

Reason: when renovating the entire existing warehouse will have to bear more load
of Fire Fighting 15kg/m2.

 The existing steel structure will not be satisfied with this extra load .
 Need to reinforce the existing structure or make a new structure to bear enough
force instead

1. Reinforcement Plan
 Advantage:
- Saving about 35% of total amount than new structure
 Disadvantage:
- More time and expense is needed to test the bearing capacity of an existing
steel structure
- Execution time: need too much time to dismantling & shipping structure to
factory, re-reinforcement, repaiting, shipping to site & erection, Install new
purlins and roofing sheet
- High risk: due to the process of dismantling the factory for the pilling works,
the steel truss and column may be deformed and warped, that affecting the
bearing capacity
- Poor aesthetics: maybe because the machinery in the line is higher than
the existing structure, the adjustment of the structure is more difficult and
complicated.
- Low structural strength: existing structures have been built for more than 25
years, trusses can corrode or fatigue
o The design consultant assumed SS400 steel grade to calculate and
check the bearing capacity of the existing steel truss when adding
the load of Fire Fighting. The calculation results show that the
existing structure does not guarantee the bearing capacity (please
see the calculation explanation table)
o Similarly, the design consultant checked the bearing capacity of
reinforced concrete piles below the column foot. The results show
that the pile is also not guaranteed to bear the load when adding Fire
Fighting load (please see the calculation explanation table)

2. New plan
 Advantage:
- Quick construction time: It doesn't take too much time to inspect and
dismantle, once the Design Drawing is approved, it is completely possible to
manufacture at the factory in parallel with the construction of the infrastructure.
- High aesthetics: architectural block layout flexible according to the technology
line
- Degree of High durability: New structure should have the durability to over 50
years
- Reuse existing structure for another project's light warehouse or sell for cost
recovery
 Disadvantage:
- Total investment cost is quite high
