5S AND 3RS ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES

Name of Student:
Learning Area-Grade Level: TVL-CSS GRADE 11
Date:

5S is a principle or work that works systematic and productive working outcomes. This
method makes our day-to-day works structured and efficient. It includes five steps to help
you work faster and safer. These techniques involve going through the workspace to
discard unnecessary items, organize, clean the system unit, and make it a habit, while the
3Rs is a significant component of environmentally responsible consumer behavior,
practicing 3Rs provide a huge impact to our environment and our health. Implementing 5S
and 3Rs lead us to achieve the goal of being organized and less wastages. This lesson
will encourage you to follow the steps orderly and do it constantly.

The learner demonstrates understanding of the concepts of 5S and 3Rs in accordance

with environmental policies.

LEARNER’S REFERENCE IN COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING NC II

TOPIC: Follow 5S and 3Rs according to environmental policies.

The purpose of this handout is to help you practice 5S concepts to your own desktop
computer to boost up your daily productivity and well-organized desktop.

5S provides the foundation for all quality improvement programs. Thus, it is often said
that the road to productivity starts. With 5S and through 5S you can create a highly productive
company with highly productive people. 5S is not only a matter of good housekeeping. It is a
process to create more productive people and more productive companies through motivation,
education, and the practice of 5S. It involves the creation of a strong corporate culture filled
with the spirit filled with the spirit of high productivity.

The 5S Principles

1. Seiri (Sorting/Putting things in order) Remove/discard what is not needed so that there are
fewer hazards and less clutter to interfere with work. Only keep what is needed.

2. Seiton (Orderliness/Proper Arrangement) Place things in such a way that they can be easily
reached whenever they are needed. "There must be a place for everything, and everything
must be in its place."

3. Seiso (Clean/cleanliness) Keep workplace and things clean and polished; no trash or dirt
in the workplace.

4. Seiketsu (Standardize/Purity) Maintain cleanliness after cleaning, consistently perpetual

cleaning. Such cleaning is part of every one's work.)

5. Shitsuke (Sustaining/discipline/commitment) Maintain standards and keep the facility in

safe and efficient order day after day, year after year.

Usually, most desktop looks like the picture on the

 Wasted time cleaning temporary / downloaded files.
 Desktop folder is often missed during synchronization.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3Rs)

What is reduce, reuse, recycle (3Rs)?

Reduce, reuse, and recycle (3Rs) are the

three essential components of
environmentally responsible consumer
behavior.

It is also called waste hierarchy.

Here's how that hierarchy might apply to

computers:

✔ Reduce to limit the number of purchases that you make.

✔ Reuse use items again before replacing them.
✔ Recycle, ensure items or components are put to some new purpose if possible.
If not, donate to one of several organizations that may refurbish or recycle its
components.

Recently, two more Rs are added: "rethink" or "recover."

✔ Rethink consider options to think the impact on the environment.

✔ Recover, the practice of putting waste products to use.
