Introduction
What is Helicom (Safetyplane) ?
The Helicom or Safetyplane boxes are similar. Helicom is dedicated for helicopter installations and
Safetyplane is dedicated for airplane installations.
Later in the document, we use “Helicom” term for the box.

Starting Helicom
Activate power Master of aircraft to power ON the Box. At start time the box runs an auto-test.

The user interface


Display screen
When starting and after auto-test, Helicom box displays this :

Joystick
Joystick has 4 directions keys and 1 [Enter] button on the center.
You can use joystick to change menu and section of menu; [left] and [right] toggle changes menu,
[up] and [down] toggle changes section in a menu.

Sometimes, when “#” character is displayed, you can press [Enter] to activate a special function.
On some section of menu, it is possible to change a value or activate a function; press [Enter] button;
a character “>” is displayed; use [up] and [down] toggle to change value/action and press [Enter] to
valid your change.

Access to configuration mode


Using current version
In application mode (recorder), go in “Toolkit” menu and when “toolkit link” is ON, press [Enter].

Update and using new version


In application mode (recorder), go in “Toolkit” menu and section 2, insert SDcard containing new re-
lease of Configuration firmware, when “Config. available” is displayed, press [Enter].

Menu list
The box has multiple menus to manage/configure internal components of the box.

Main menu
This is a normal display when box is ready to configure.

The box starts with auto-test error. You must contact tech-
nical support.

“Geolocation” menu
Indicates Fix quality status of GPS :
• Invalid indicates that no GPS information is received
• Fix GPS indicates that 2D information is received
• Fix DGPS indicates 3D information is received
Indicates the GPS date received. When GNS430 is connec-
ted indication is 01/01/01 because no date is transmitted.

Indicates the GPS time received. When GNS430 is connec-


ted indication is 00:00:00 because no time is transmitted.

Indicates the GPS latitude :


• I is N or S for North and South
• DDD for degrees
• MM for minutes
• mmmm for thousandth of minute
Indicates the GPS longitude :
• I is E or W for East and West
• DDD for degrees
• MM for minutes
• mmmm for thousandth of minute
Indicates altitude

Indicates satellite count

“Main board status” menu
This menu lists the different states of main board components.
Indicates the current date of system

Indicates the current time of system

Indicates the status and the type of smartcard

Indicates status of battery charge :


• COOL with low current
• WARM with high current

Indicates the release version of firmaware, on the Sdcard


(left side) and onboard (right side). If “*” caracter is present
between them, press [Enter] to upload new firmware from
Sdcard to board.

“Main board heart” menu


This menu lists the different measures of internal sensor.

Voltage are in mV, current in mA and temperature in degrees

“GSM” menu
This menu can perform test of GSM modem.
Indicates whether the modem is active (OFF / ON). To start
modem, press [Enter] choose ON and press [Enter] again to
valid.

Indicates whether the SIM card is present in correct state


(OFF / ON). Significant only if the modem has been started

Indicates CSQ level.

Indicates the state of SMS (voice) registration :


• 0 not registered
• 1 registered
• 2 registration pending
• 5 registered in roaming mode

Indicates the state of GPRS (data) registration :


• 0 not registered
• 1 registered
• 2 registration pending
• 5 registered in roaming mode

If an error becomes during starting modem or registration, in-


dicates the error number (eg technical support)

This menu permits to download new release of firmware or


remote control of the box by ISEI
When modem is “Powered”, press [Enter] and choose “Serv-
er” or specific number, indicated by ISEI support, to start re-
mote session. After connected to the target (ISEI side) it in-
dicates “ON”.

“WIFI” menu
This menu can perform test of WIFI modem.

Indicates whether the modem is active (OFF / ON). To start


modem, press [Enter] choose ON and press [Enter] again to
valid.

Indicates whether the WIFI access point is reached

Indicates whether the end point (ISEI server) is reached

Indicates the reception level (in dB)

This menu permits to download new release of firmware or


remote control of the box by ISEI
When modem is “Powered”, press [Enter] and choose “ON”
to start remote session. During the search of target, indicate
“Pending”, after connected to the target (ISEI server) indicate
“ON”.

“SATELLITE” menu
This menu can perform test of Satellite modem.

Indicates whether the modem is active (OFF / ON). To start


modem, press [Enter] choose ON and press [Enter] again to
valid.

Indicates the reception level (0 to 5)

Indicates whether the satellite is attached

“PIC STATUS” menu
This menu lists the different states of PIC card components (Peripheral Interface Card)

Indicates id PIC card is running

Indicates the firmware version release of PIC card.


If “*” character is present, press [Enter] to download a new
release into the card.

Next sections present different measure of internal sensors.


Voltage are in mV.
Errors indicate count of error for different inputs

Indicates charge factor (in G/100). If the box is mounted on


different position than horizontal, you must calibrate the
sensor. To do it, press [Enter] choose “ON” and press [Enter]
again.
During calibration, “?” character is displayed.
Calibration is terminated when 100 (1G) is reached or after
20 seconds if box is in an incorrect position witch does not
permit a correct calibration.

“PIC SENSORS” menu


This menu lists all sensors measures.

Indicates the measure of sensor NN. Value depends of


sensor and can be displayed in signed mode by pressing
[Enter]

“EXT STATUS” menu
This menu lists the different states of EXT card components (for analog external sensors)

Indicates id EXT card is running

Indicates the firmware version release of EXT card.


If “*” character is present, press [Enter] to download a new
release into the card.

Next sections present different measure of internal sensors.


Voltage are in mV.
Errors indicate count of error for different inputs

“EXT SENSORS” menu


This menu lists all sensors measures.

Indicates the measure of sensor NN. Value depend of sensor


and can be displayed in signed mode by pressing [Enter]

“TRANSPARENT MODE” menu
This menu allows different “transparent” communication channels for configure internal modems.

Indicates the output channel. Only USB used in this version.

Indicates/Choose the target modem in the box


• NONE, no target defined
• SATELLITE
• WIFI
• GSM
Press [Enter], select target and press [Enter] again to valid
target

Indicates/Choose the transparent mode between Bluetooth


and USB, it permits the configuration of Bluetooth modem by
USB channel.

“SCREEN” menu
This menu allows configuration of the display.

Indicates/Choose the luminosity mode :


• Auto for automatically mode, depend of externally lu-
minosity
• Manu for manually mode, use next section to enter
value
• None for switch off the luminosity

Indicates/Choose the luminosity value for “Manu” mode

Indicates/Choose the value for contrast. (37 in factory set-


tings)
