My direct plan after I graduate is to take a few weeks off for myself before I dive into

looking for a job. I’d love to go on a vacation and just enjoy the accomplishments I have
achieved by earning my Master’s degree. I am still deciding if I would like a salary or contract
position, as both have pros and cons. I want to work and make a name for myself in the field of
counseling, but work/life balance is essential to me. I completed my internship in a private
practice, which allowed me to see the positives and negatives of an environment as such. I
enjoyed that it was small, but I witnessed disorganization that I do not want to be exposed to
again.
My career goals for the next year will stay simple. I want to find a place where I enjoy
working and continue honing the skills I have spent three years learning. I am so new to the field
still and have much to learn. I am still unsure of myself as a counselor, although I know I have
grown from where I started. I look forward to continuing to get supervision and learning from
my colleagues. One area I want to focus on is play therapy. I spent a lot of time learning and
using play therapy and I want to find a site that offers it. I enjoyed CBT as well and would like to
focus on that too.
As for goals for the next three years, once I learn more about play therapy, a goal of mine
is to become a certified play therapist. I also want to finish my supervision hours to become a
fully licensed counselor. Being in the field and earning my hours can go towards becoming a
certified play therapist. I also plan to attend conferences and any affordable training I can find on
play therapy. My goals which will take more than three years are to open up my own private
practice one day and perhaps become a counselor supervisor.
