ACTIVITY 10b

Check Your Understanding

Answer the following questions.

1. In your daily experience of technology, what else is revealed to you aside from its
functions?
In my daily experience of technology, aside from its function it also revealed its advantages and
disadvantages. Technology helps us in many ways. It became an important part of our lives. As
time went on I noticed the advantages and disadvantages of technology. Some of the advantages
of technology are improved communication and connectivity, increased efficiency and
productivity, enhanced learning and education, access to information and knowledge, etc. While
some of the disadvantages of technology are dependence and addiction, isolation, loneliness,
cyberbullying, misinformation and fake news, etc. So we must always remember that we should
use it correctly and efficiently.

2. What would have happened to humankind if technology did not exist?

If technology didn't exist, humankind would go under a drastic change. I can't imagine life
without technology. We wouldn't be able to interact or communicate with our relatives or friends
who are far away. Although people in ancient times live without technology, it is different this
time. People now rely on technology, it became part of our daily lives.

3. Do you agree with Martin Heidegger in his idea that technology should only be seen as
one of the approaches in perceiving truth? What are other possible approaches we should
consider?

No, I don't agree with Martin Heidegger in his idea that technology should only be seen as one of
the approaches in perceiving truth. Yes, technology is one of the approaches in perceiving truth
but it is also an approach in revealing. Although technology is revealing, it does not always
guarantee us the truth; it sees something related to us, but it is essentially misleading and in some
ways untrue because it does not see how technology is a way that all entities, not just machines
and technical processes, now present themselves. The truth does not depend solely on
technology, but on how people use technology to their advantage, and it is not something we can
rely on when determining the truth because technology, like robots, can be manipulated. It does
not guarantee that we will fully enter, live within, or experience this, nor can we predict what
will happen to technology or to us once we do. Some of the approaches that we could consider is
our rationality, and corroboration.
