The study investigated the influence of peer pressure on the career choice of adolescents on students of GOC.

At a certain stage in everyone’s life, we all must choose a career path to pursue. In the case of children, they
often have different dreams and interests they desire to pursue in life. However, as they all grow into
adolescents, the choice of a career path becomes an important decision staring us in the face. Career decision-
making is even more crucial for adolescents, as they may not have enough information to make an informed
decision that will be suitable for their talents, abilities, and personality. Peer pressure is frequently observed in
teens throughout the adolescent era because they frequently seek comfort among their classmates and They aim
to follow their peers' lead without considering if it will be helpful or harmful for them. Adolescence is a period
of an individual that is transitory when a child reaches the point of changing its childhood to adulthood (Adeniyi
& Kolawole, 2015). The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of self-efficacy, academic self-
concept, and peer pressure on career decision-making among GOC Grade 12 students. Specifically, the study
sought to examine the influence of self-efficacy, Besides, the study sought to establish the relationship and
differences between self-efficacy, academic self-concept, and peer pressure on career decision-making.

Peer Pressure is particularly common in adolescents because it is a cause to an individual to act in a certain
manner. In some cases, Peer Pressure and Self-Efficacy has a relation between them, especially in the personality
development of the students. One of the relationship of Peer Pressure and Self-Efficacy is the decision. They have
both decision, in which Peer Pressure, the one who decide is their family and friends and in Self-Efficacy is the
student itself. Peer Pressure can also make an student question their self-efficacy. Because self-efficacy appears
form the personal experiences of the other people and their assessments. Students who are influenced by the peer
pressure tend to have a low self-efficacy. Especially if their friends and family are experiencing many failures, it can
impair the adolescent’s self-efficacy.

Choosing career path is always a pickle to those students who are not yet decided on what career they will be choosing.
Career path confronts challenges on job selection, educational field selection and university selection. With this, among
the students are challenged on what will they pick because it may cause them a life time consequences. Career decision
making may influence by students perception to self efficacy, academic self efficacy, peer pressure and the likes. During
adolescence of students, they experience in need of becoming an independent person as a result students become a
member of a peer group because peers are one of the students sources of influence and support other than ones family.
Being under control of Peer group causes peer pressure it may be bad or good and peer pressure is defined as group
insistence and encouragement for an individual to be involved in a group activity in a particular way. Peer Pressure can
come from parenting and circle of friends and choosing a career path is undoubtedly connected to them. It will be a
main factor on what are the students going to pursue on college and because of peers it can play a key role in improving
personal efficacies and in shaping the life courses of students who wants to be independent . Self Efficacy is a person’s
beliefs about his/her abilities to take the actions necessary to be able to perform a behavior successfully. It also plays a
key role to choosing one's career path it can have negative or positive on choosing career because there are 2 self
efficacy it whether you have a high or low self efficacy. According to a study of "Sim, T. N. (2000). Adolescent
psychosocial competence: The importance and role of regard for parents. Journal of Research on Adolescence",
Students experience a lot of pressure from various people and pressure from peers can have an negative effects on
students self efficacy and self respect on themselves. The researchers are defining what is the relationship between peer
pressure and self efficacy and how does it influence the choosing students career path.

Self efficacy can be considered to predict career choice because self efficacy is a belief to oneself if ones can do a certain
task. With high self efficacy he/she perceived that difficult challenge are not to be avoided but to be climb at. With this
students with high self efficacy they tend to plan ahead and set goals to achieve. On contrary if the student has low self
efficacy experience lack of confidence on facing difficult challenges or tasks and with that those students may don't want
to engage themselves on choosing career path.

On the other hand, peer pressure is a significant variable that influence's students choosing career path. Being a
member of a peer influence your behavior, perception, habits, understanding, mindset, and the most important is
decision making. Peers are one of the factors that molds ones person perception or altitude on decision making. With
that, influence of peer develops into an instrument for career path selection and opportunities on among the students.
