COMMUNITY GARDENS & HOW THEY IMPACT LITERACY

I chose this image because it represents the bringing together of the community and the use of
rhetoric to create a change through the use of gardening. It can be clearly shown in the image
that people are working together to plant produce that they will all get to enjoy when it is
finished growing. This image was found by googling community gardens and is credible because
it was found on the nature conservancy organization’s website. This site also is credible because
the organization is globally known for their involvement in helping to bring community gardens
to life all over the world.

What informed my choice of the image was the fact that it represents community in itself. There
are people shown to be working from different races and ethnic backgrounds that all want to
achieve the same goal and make their community a better place. I also like the fact that there is
more than one person working in the garden because this can be related to the use of rhetoric
literacy and ties into how important the use of rhetoric is to bring change in the community.
What surprised me the most about this process was honestly how it easy it was to find a picture

that represented my project so well that was actually credible. In the past I have had trouble
working on projects that I had interest in due to the lack of data and credible information. With
this project it fees the exact opposite and everything just feels meant to be. I’m saying this I
would not change my image if I had more time because I feel like this image is perfect for my
project. As mentioned before the image shows how communities can be brought together
through the use of community gardens and even without words it can be seen how effective
community gardening is at bringing a wide variety of people from the community together.
